Thousands attended the cultural and awareness programme, ‘Eid Al Fitr Awareness and Cultural Celebrations', organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr at Asian Town. The event will conclude Monday.

Members of the expatriate communities presented a number of cultural shows on the occasion, while MoI officials organised several awareness programmes for expatriates on a number of important issues.
A large number of workers from countries such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and several others flocked to the venue well in advance to enjoy the programmes. There were also raffle draws and the winners were presented with attractive gifts.

The MoI organised a number of presentations to raise awareness among expatriates on a number of topics. Various departments of the MoI, such as Traffic, Civil Defence, Community Policing, Al Fazaa, Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs, Search and Follow Up Department and the Public Relations Department, participated in the progamme and gave awareness talks on the occasion.
“The event is held with the aim of providing a safer environment for expatriate communities to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The awareness programme provides major tips for the community members about a number of rules and regulations to be followed on different occasions as well as general instructions on some important topics,” an MoI official said.
The awareness presentations included talks on traffic safety, pedestrian safety, awareness messages on risks of drug abuse and mental stimulant usage, and the risks of carrying different materials given by known and unknown people without verifying their content while coming to Qatar.

The talks also provided instructions on the procedures to bring medicine to Qatar, the types of medicines not permitted in Qatar as well as the amount of medicine allowed to be carried to the country.
Another presentation highlighted the importance of carrying the original Residency Permit (RP) card at all times -- and not photocopies -- as well as presenting it to the authorities if asked for verification. The audience was also told that they should keep away from accident sites, with the MoI stressing that they should neither take pictures of accident victims nor share them on social media. There was also a presentation on Qatar’s customs and traditions.
During the event, there were opportunities for the community members to showcase their talents in singing, acting, dancing and drama or other cultural activities and the audience was given several prizes through raffle draws.
