The final weekend of Shop Qatar, organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), will showcase a wide range of offerings, giving residents and visitors a one-of-its-kind shopping and entertainment experience.
First on the festival’s list is a live make-up tutorial led by beauty and luxury experts from Guerlain who will hold demonstrations and one-on-one consultations at The Gate Mall free of charge on Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 6pm and from 4pm on Friday.
Next is an outdoor fashion show at Lagoona Mall on Thursday, featuring 100 different designs of bridal couture, abayas, kaftans, and ready-to-wear outfits. A red carpet event will take place at 7pm before the show.
The organisers have invited 10 local designers and five international designers from Kuwait, India, Pakistan and Hong Kong to showcase a diversity of styles.
While entry is free , QTA stressed that children under 12 years will not be allowed in the mall’s piazza during the event.
“The location’s iconic architecture coupled with the designers’ renderings of traditional textures in contemporary designs, perfectly encapsulates the festival’s slogan ‘A Brand New Tradition,’ and provides residents and visitors with a uniquely Qatari experience” QTA festivals and tourism events director Mashal Shahbik said in a statement.
QTA supports up-and-coming designers and entrepreneurs in the country by providing additional platforms to feature their products and expand market reach.
Shop Qatar’s outdoor activities, courtesy of Katara Hospitality, returns to the Doha Corniche this weekend with a fireworks display at 8pm, and screenings of Qatar Foundation’s new 3D animation ‘edutainment’ TV series Siraj at 6.30pm, 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm, as well as Arda dances, comedy show, and musical parades.
The festival will also see members of Bedaya Centre and food trucks selling locally-made delicacies and snacks to visitors aimed at supporting local community initiatives and entrepreneurs.
“With every festival we organise, we aim to enrich Qatar’s tourism offering and drive footfall to various venues across the country,” said QTA chief marketing and promotion officer Rashed al-Qurese, as he urged residents and visitors to make the most of Shop Qatar’s final weekend.
“In addition to all these exciting events, residents and visitors can still enjoy discounted shopping offers and enter the final mega-raffle for a chance to win QR1mn on February 7,” he noted.
For entertainment, the much-awaited four-day performance of Broadway musical Cats will start on Wednesday at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) while the four-day Doha Comedy Festival is set to take place on Thursday, also at the QNCC.
