The huge shortage of entertainment shows and activities in the country allays fears of any oversupply in the Qatar market, Mall of Qatar CEO Ahmad al-Mulla has said.
“The market is large enough to absorb several new (entertainment) activities,” he stressed yesterday at a press conference convened by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), Qatar Airways, Mall of Qatar, and Ezdan World to announce the launch of ‘Shop Qatar’ festival.
“We need to add new ideas, be innovative and creative with new (tourism) products to attract more visitors,” suggested al-Mulla.
He believes that Qatar can succeed in diversifying its economy by pursuing such efforts to boost its tourism sector.
Describing it as a new area of development, the Mall of Qatar senior official stressed that holding entertainment shows and activities requires a huge task.
He pointed out that ‘Shop Qatar’ would also feature a wide range of unique entertainment activities for all. Renowned singers, artistes, and comedians from across the GCC countries have been invited to perform at the month-long festival, which will take place from January 7 to February 7.
The festival will also hold live cultural shows, performances by singing sensations and unlimited family-friendly entertainment in a festive, safe environment that reflects local culture and heritage, according to QTA.
Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Cats, the longest-running show on Broadway, is expected to enthral the audience at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) from February 1 to 4.
Arab and Khaliji singers will take the centre stage in two concerts set on January 20 and 27 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
QTA also brings back the Doha Comedy Festival with an extensive line up of Khaliji, Arab, and international comedians for three days of laughter and humorous storytelling from February 2 to 4 at QNCC.
Participating retail partners will also host exclusive in-mall entertainment and roaming mall shows to entertain families and children.
To capitalise on Qatar’s winter weather, ‘Shop Qatar’ has partnered with Ezdan World to offer a fun-fair to visitors at the Magical Festival Village, which will be held beside Katara – Cultural Village.
The Village houses more than 400 shopping outlets, dozens of cafes and restaurants, bordered by public seating areas where visitors can relax and enjoy the ambience and lovely climate.
