Widam Food Company has opened a new abattoir for slaughtering camels, which is considered the first of its type in the country. It is located at the Central Market inside the automated slaughterhouse.

Abdulrahman al-Khayareen, chief executive officer, said that the total space of the new abattoir amounts to 600sqm.
There is a hall for slaughtering camels with the most sophisticated machines, in addition to a complex of barns and tracks. Reception rooms and delivery area are outside the abattoir. There is also a space designated for veterinarians to perform the necessary health checks on the animals.
Al-Khayareen said that the building of the new abattoir was accomplished in three months and it can handle 100 heads of camels a day, with focus on the highest standards of health, safety and security.
Widam took such an initiative to cater to the increasing demand for camel meat in the local market.
Al-Khayareen said there are now three production lines in the main abattoir - one for sheep and goats, another for cattle and the third for camels.
