The GCC region with a huge tech savvy young population provides ample opportunities for a leading technology company like Huawei, says the president of its Middle East & Africa Consumer Business Group, Jiao Jian.
“The GCC region has a very unique culture. And people in the region very much value their culture. Young people in the GCC countries are proud of their culture. At the same time, they are tech savvy and modern in their outlook,” Jian said in an interview with Gulf Times at the Dolce Munich Unterschleissheim Hotel here.
Because the GCC is “very dynamic”, it is one of the first regions where Huawei introduces its flagship phones, he said.
He pointed out that Huawei was on a “continuous journey” to “build a good brand”.
“We are a customer-centric company. We always engage in a dialogue with our customers and find out what they are looking for…what they want. Once we have identified their needs, we ask ourselves whether we have the capabilities to meet those. It is more important to walk the walk then talk the talk,” Jian stressed.
He said Huawei believes in investing substantially on its brand and technology.
As a leading technology company, Huawei invests a significant amount of its annual sales revenue to research and development efforts, and has established some 16 research centres around the world.
“Every year, we invest not less than 10% of our revenue on research and development (R&D),” he said.
Jian said the Middle East and Africa (MEA) remained a “key market” for Huawei. The population in this region is rapidly increasing as well as the number of mobile phone users.
“If there is one very promising market for us… it is this region, particularly Africa,” Jian noted.
Huawei has long supplied networking solutions to top telecom operators in the region and the company recently pushed into the consumer electronics segment with its flagship smart phone devices.
Huawei’s products and services are now available in more than 170 countries, and are “used by a third of the world’s population”, ranking third in the world in mobile phone shipments in 2016.
Huawei CBG shares its vision with people who pursue their dreams, people who are visionary challengers, people who are proactive with a strong belief in striving to achieve their goals.
He said Huawei is dedicated to bringing the latest technology to consumers and creating extraordinary experiences for people everywhere.
Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) is one of Huawei’s three business groups, providing a range of products including mobile phones, mobile broadband (MBB) devices and home devices.
