The General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has distributed 244 garbage bins across 11 public beaches in the country.

According to local Arabic daily Al Sharq, the initiative is part of the MME's efforts to keep the country's beaches litter-free and provide visitors with a pleasant experience.

The department has devised a plan under which the bins will be cleared on a daily basis across all the locations, with the work intensifying on weekends and holidays.

Meanwhile, the Fuwairit beach is expected to reopen in mid-August. The MME will place an adequate number of garbage bins there as well when it reopens.

The MME will adopt more such initiatives to enhance the protection of the local environment, the daily has said.

The process of cleaning beaches that fall under the administrative jurisdiction of Qatar Petroleum (QP) - Zekreet, Dukhan and Umm Bab - is undertaken by a private company under the supervision of QP.
