An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit southeastern Taiwan on Wednesday, with no immediate reports of damage.The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported that the quake occurred this morning at a depth of 11.9 km in Taitung County.Taiwan lies near the meeting point of two tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean, making it prone to regular earthquakes.The deadliest earthquake to hit Taiwan occurred in 1999, when a 7.6-magnitude quake killed more than 2,000 people.
