His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani has honoured 80 government teachers for their contributions to the country's education sector at an event marking World Teachers' Day Wednesday.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) organised the celebration under the theme "giving that nurtures generations" at the Ritz-Carlton in Doha. The event was attended by Their Excellencies Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem, Her Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah AlKhater, and Civil Service and Government Development Bureau President Dr Abdulaziz al-Khalifa, along with senior education and academic officials.

"Today, I was delighted to honour 80 teachers, both male and female, from various government schools. This recognition is a tribute to their impact, which will extend to future generations, and to their giving and distinguished efforts in the educational and teaching field. All thanks to them, and to all teachers, for what they have contributed in instilling values and principles, and preparing future generations," HE the Prime Minister said on his X platform.

"You have informed the most noble or the most exalted of those who build and create souls and minds. To every teacher, on this Teacher's Day, we celebrate your selfless role in nurturing generations over the years, the importance of your noble educational and teaching mission, and your effective contribution to elevating the status of education and developing human competencies. So, thank you for your giving and dedication," he said in an earlier post. 

School leaders, teachers, parents, students and local media representatives also attended the ceremony. The ministry said the honorees were recognised for their work in classrooms and their efforts to support the development of students' knowledge and skills. It added the teachers had also contributed to instilling values and principles intended to help students develop their character and prepare for the future.

World Teachers' Day has been observed annually since 1994 to highlight the support teachers need to deploy their talent and to develop the profession globally.
