The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is launching its 2026 Patient Safety Campaign, on September 17-23, as part of Qatar Patient Safety Week and in conjunction with World Patient Safety Day, observed annually on September 17.
This year’s observance is held under the theme Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases and the global message Safe Care for Life, highlighting the importance of providing safe and continuous care for people living with noncommunicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and other conditions that require long-term follow-up and management.
Dr Amal Abdullah al-Ali, the executive director of quality, patient safety and innovation at the PHCC, emphasised that patient safety is a strategic priority for the corporation.
She noted that improving the safety of care for people living with noncommunicable diseases requires a genuine partnership between patients and healthcare providers, alongside a sustained commitment to quality- and safety-based practices throughout the patient journey.
Nawal Khattabi, the director of risk management, patient safety and patient engagement at the PHCC, said that the campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of prevention, early detection, regular follow-up and adherence to treatment plans.
It also seeks, she said, to empower patients to play an active role as partners in their own healthcare safety, helping reduce risks, improve health outcomes, and enhance quality of life.
PHCC health centres are hosting a series of awareness activities and events alongside the campaign, including educational booths for patients and visitors, workshops and training programmes for healthcare professionals, and educational and digital materials shared through PHCC’s social media platforms.
These activities aim to promote awareness of patient safety and best practices in chronic disease management.
The campaign also features interactive competitions and daily awareness messages targeting different community segments.
In addition, PHCC headquarters and several PHCC health centres will be illuminated in orange, the internationally recognised colour of World Patient Safety Day.
