The Association of Filipino Real Estate Executives in Qatar (AFREEQ) sees significant potential to promote legitimate Philippine property investment and help Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) turn their income into long-term investments that contribute to their financial security.

The initiative was highlighted during AFREEQ’s general assembly meeting held recently in Doha, where members gathered to discuss strategies for enhancing industry standards and strengthening engagement with property developers in the Philippines.

With an estimated 280,000 Filipinos residing and working in Qatar, the association noted that establishing consistent local engagement remains vital for serving both new buyers and existing property owners.

Speaking at the assembly, Joseph Timothy Rivera, who was re-elected as AFREEQ chairman, emphasised that having accessible local representatives in Qatar provides buyers with convenient, face-to-face support for post-sale requirements, including documentation, property turnovers, and ongoing payment management.

“While these can be addressed remotely through offices in Manila, having authorised representatives physically present in Qatar gives investors the opportunity to raise concerns, seek clarification, and discuss their matters face-to-face. A local presence can make after-sales support more accessible, responsive, and personal,” Rivera pointed out.

Rivera also emphasised the importance of maintaining alignment with local regulatory guidelines, including those established by the Ministry of Justice.

“The association recognises that Qatar’s regulatory environment requires developers and their representatives to comply with applicable laws and licensing requirements...the future of Philippine real estate in Qatar must always be built on compliance, credibility, and commitment,” Rivera emphasised.

AFREEQ's newly elected leadership team for the 2026–2027 term includes Nuaira Halun Muhammad as vice chairman; Rowena Cambal, secretary; Jeffrey Gabriel, treasurer; Mona Larrucea, auditor; Ismael Benavides Jr, public relations officer; and Dolores Robles, business manager.

Additionally, committee heads include Grace Fernandez of Nelson Park Properties for Finance, Arlene Benavides of Megaworld for Programs & Projects, Frank Robles of Megaworld for Grievances, and Donna Garcia from Link Pro Real Estate for Elections.

Since 2023, the association has continued to offer guidance to real estate practitioners, working alongside advisories issued by the Philippine Embassy in Doha to foster professional standards and protect investor interests across the community, Rivera said.

He added: “The association remains committed to working with Philippine developers, Filipino real estate professionals, relevant institutions, and Qatar’s regulatory authorities toward a renewed Philippine property industry presence that benefits developers, empowers Filipino OFWs, strengthens investor confidence, and further positions Philippine real estate as a property investment of choice in Qatar.”
