Qatari actor and director Ali al-Khalaf has completed filming Fadfada (Confessions), a new psychological drama that delves into the emotional burdens carried in silence and the resilience required to overcome them.
Produced by Al-Hanin Art Production Company, the film marks the first instalment of an ambitious three-part cinematic series exploring deeply human themes through a distinctly Qatari lens.
Starring actress and director Hanan al-Sadiq alongside Khaled al-Tamimi, Fadfada follows an emotionally charged narrative that examines the psychological pressures individuals face and the toll these can take when left unaddressed.
Through its suspenseful storytelling, the film highlights the importance of emotional support, inner strength and the human capacity to confront adversity.
Speaking to reporters about the project, al-Khalaf said the production reflects his belief in cinema’s power to foster empathy and meaningful dialogue.
“The Arab film industry needs cinema that opens a space for reflection on the emotions and experiences people live through away from the public eye. Human stories deserve to be told with honesty, compassion and depth,” he said.
The film launches a new trilogy by Al-Hanin Art Production Company, with each instalment set to explore the complexities of human emotion and shine a light on those who quietly struggle with psychological challenges. The series aims to encourage conversations around mental well-being while presenting compelling stories rooted in authentic human experiences.
Al-Sadiq said the company’s productions seek to challenge conventional storytelling through original narratives and a distinctive cinematic vision, an approach that has helped attract recognition for Qatari cinema at regional and international film festivals. Fadfada builds on the success of the company’s previous feature, Another Day, directed by al-Sadiq and starring al-Khalaf and Ali al-Sharshani.
The film earned international acclaim, winning the Golden Award at the Casablanca International Feature and Cultural Film Festival and screening at the Cannes Film Festival, further highlighting the growing presence of Qatari filmmaking on the global stage.
Al-Khalaf, who began his artistic career in 2003, has contributed to more than 22 theatrical productions as an actor, director and set designer. A recipient of the Best Actor Award in Theatre Education, he has established himself as one of Qatar’s versatile creative talents, balancing performance with directing and artistic development.
