The Fraternal Order of Eagles - Philippine Eagles (TFOE-PE) Qatar Region brought together dozens of Filipino organisations for a charity bowling tournament in Doha, raising funds to support residents affected by recent typhoons in General Santos City, Mindanao.
Held on July 10, the ‘Solidarity Bowling Competition’ drew overwhelming support from the Filipino community, with organisers saying the venue reached full capacity as 27 organisations fielded 32 teams.
Part of the proceeds will be sent to General Santos City to assist typhoon-affected residents and survivors, highlighting the organisation's commitment to extending help to communities in need back home.
TFOE-PE Qatar Region Governor Rene Lloren said the event was about more than friendly competition.
"Today is more than just a day of competition; it is a celebration of unity, teamwork, and community. These games remind us that when we come together with respect and a shared purpose, we can achieve great things,” Lloren said.
He stressed that while winning was not the primary goal, the tournament underlined the importance of building friendships, supporting one another, and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
“Whether we win or lose, what matters most is the friendships we build, the support we give to one another, and the values we demonstrate through good sportsmanship,” he added.
Lloren also thanked volunteers and organisers, particularly members of the Supreme Elite Lady Eagles Club, for their dedication in preparing the event, as well as the clubs under the Qatar Region for their unwavering support.
“I would like to thank our volunteers, the ‘ates’ of the Supreme Elite Lady Eagles Club, all the club members under Qatar Region, and everyone who worked hard to make this event possible. Your dedication has brought us all together today,” he said.
He also thanked the wider Filipino community for supporting the fundraising initiative.
Addressing the participants, Lloren encouraged them to compete with integrity while strengthening the bonds within the community.
“Give your best effort, play fairly and encourage one another. Remember that every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and every game is a chance to strengthen our community.
“Let us compete with enthusiasm, respect one another, and enjoy every moment. Together, let us make these Solidarity Games a memorable celebration of unity and teamwork,” he stressed.
The organisers described the strong turnout as proof of the Filipino community’s spirit of volunteerism and solidarity, with the tournament serving as both a recreational gathering and a fundraising effort to assist families recovering from the impact of the typhoons in General Santos City.
