Portugal’s ambassador to Qatar Ana Filomena da Costa Rocha has expressed her profound condolences following the passing of His Highness the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, paying tribute to his exceptional leadership and enduring legacy.
The envoy conveyed her deepest sympathies on behalf of the embassy of Portugal in Qatar and in her personal capacity to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the esteemed al-Thani family, the government of Qatar, and its people.
Da Costa Rocha described HH the late Father Amir as a visionary leader whose wisdom, foresight, and unwavering dedication transformed Qatar into a modern, prosperous, and internationally respected nation.
She noted that his remarkable leadership laid the foundations for the country's extraordinary development while strengthening its role as a bridge for dialogue, co-operation, and mutual understanding among nations.
The envoy further highlighted that HH the late Father Emir's legacy extends far beyond Qatar's remarkable achievements, emphasising that his steadfast commitment to progress, education, innovation, and sustainable development inspired generations and earned him the admiration and respect of the international community.
She affirmed that his vision and statesmanship have left an indelible mark on the history of Qatar and will continue to guide its future development.
Expressing Portugal's solidarity with Qatar during this period of national mourning, the envoy affirmed that Portugal stands alongside the Qatari people in honouring the memory of HH the late Father Emir with profound respect and gratitude for a lifetime devoted to serving his country and its people.
She further expressed her hopes that HH the late Father Emir's enduring legacy will continue to inspire future generations and that his memory will remain a lasting source of pride for Qatar.
