What began as a friendly bowling competition turned into an evening of generosity and solidarity as the Oryx Knights Eagles Club brought together members of the Filipino community in Qatar for its “Bowling for a Cause” tournament on June 26.
The event united participants from various organisations and chapters of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, combining sportsmanship and fellowship with a shared mission of helping fellow Eagles facing difficult circumstances.
Organised under the Alalayang Agila Programme, the tournament raised funds to assist members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and their families who have lost loved ones or have been affected by natural disasters in the Philippines. The initiative reflects the organisation's commitment to compassion, service, and brotherhood, extending support to fellow members during times of need.
Eagle Kuya Otep Salviejo opened the programme followed by club president Eagle Kuya Lanz Berja’s remarks, reminding participants that the gathering was more than a sporting event and described it as an opportunity to strengthen fellowship while supporting a meaningful cause.
To uphold the values of fairness and integrity, Eagle Kuya RJ Rivera administered the Oath of Sportsmanship, encouraging bowlers to compete with honour and respect. Eagle Ate Danii Alcantara served as master of ceremonies, keeping the evening's program lively and engaging.
Bowlers representing different Eagles chapters and organisations showcased both their skills and the strong sense of brotherhood and sisterhood that defines the organisation. While the tournament featured friendly competition, its charitable purpose remained at the heart of the event.
BIMAK bagged the championship, followed by Supreme Elite Eagles Club as first runner-up and Cat's Eye Team as second runner-up. Boyet Dictado of BIMAK earned the Men's Highest Scorer award, while Shiela of BIMAK was recognised as the Women's Highest Scorer for her outstanding performance.
The closing programme saw Sports Committee chairman, Eagle Kuya Arnold Pajota, thanking the participating organisations, Eagles clubs, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters whose contributions helped make the tournament a success. He commended the players for demonstrating teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship, saying the event embodied the true spirit of the Fraternal Order of Eagles by fostering unity while serving a meaningful cause.
More than the medals and trophies awarded on the lanes, the tournament highlighted the Oryx Knights Eagles Club’s continuing commitment to community service through sports. It also underlined the enduring Eagle values of liberty, truth, justice, equality, peace, and brotherhood.
