The Music Affairs Centre at the Ministry of Culture marked World Music Day, celebrated annually on June 21, reaffirming music's vital role as a universal language that connects communities, preserves heritage, and inspires cultural dialogue.
The global occasion highlights music’s ability to transcend borders, languages, and geographic differences, serving as a powerful form of artistic expression that reflects the identities, histories, and social transformations of societies.
Music Affairs Centre director Khaled al-Salem emphasised the central role of music in human culture, noting its ability to communicate emotions, influence communities, and build bridges of understanding among peoples.
“Music is a language that goes beyond words and reaches hearts directly,” he said. “On World Music Day, we renew our commitment to supporting musical creativity, nurturing talent, and strengthening the role of music as a bridge for cultural exchange between peoples and cultures.”
Al-Salem added that the Music Affairs Centre continues to contribute to the development of Qatar’s music scene through specialised programmes and initiatives designed to discover, train, and empower emerging artists.
The World Music Day celebration coincides with the Centre’s ongoing efforts to support young musical talent and promote artistic excellence.
As part of these efforts, al-Salem, alongside oud player and centre member Abdul Aziz Saleh, took part in the “Rising Stars 2026” competition, organised by Sherborne School Qatar in cooperation with several schools across the country.
The competition concluded last Saturday at the Mall of Qatar, showcasing the abilities of young performers and highlighting the importance of creating platforms where future generations can develop their musical skills.
Through its diverse initiatives, the Music Affairs Centre continues to pursue its vision of strengthening the country’s cultural landscape, preserving musical heritage, and establishing music as a key pillar of national identity and creative expression.
