HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani chaired the Cabinet’s regular meeting yesterday at the Amiri Diwan.
Following the meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi disclosed that at the outset the Cabinet renewed Qatar’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks carried out yesterday against Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, considering them a flagrant violation of these countries’ sovereignty, a clear breach of international law and a serious threat to regional security and stability, and expressed Qatar’s full solidarity with the three countries and support for all measures they take to safeguard their sovereignty and security.
During the session, the Cabinet noted the Shura Council’s approval of a draft law on metrology, prepared to replace Law No. (21) of 1972 on the Unification and Determination of Measures, Scales and Weights. The draft aims to modernise the regulatory framework governing metrology, keep pace with rapid developments in the field, identify the entities responsible for measurement and calibration approval, provide appropriate consumer protection and ensure fair competition.
The Cabinet also approved the General Policy and Strategy for National Local Content, prepared by the Ministry of Finance in co-ordination with the National Planning Council, in implementation of Cabinet Decision No. (11) of 2025 on the establishment of the Ministerial Committee for National Local Content.
The policy and strategy aim to establish an integrated national framework for promoting national local content in government procurement, creating the highest possible level of sustainable local value, and encouraging private-sector investment locally by providing new investment opportunities for local entrepreneurs and attracting international investors. They also aim to achieve the highest levels of competitiveness, contribute to the development of private-sector businesses and support the growth of local industries and companies, in line with the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy aimed at building a diversified and sustainable economy based on knowledge and innovation.
The Cabinet approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on co-operation between the Ministry of Justice in Qatar and the Department of Justice in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, as well as a draft MoU between the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority and the Agency of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market.
The Cabinet also viewed a presentation by HE the Minister of Municipality on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as an effective tool for planning and accelerating decision-making across the Ministry of Municipality and other government entities. The presentation also addressed enhancing the use of comprehensive geospatial data, developed and continuously updated in accordance with the highest standards, in a manner that meets the needs of government entities, the private sector and the wider community.
