The major indices on Wall Street closed higher Friday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 38.82 points, or 0.59 percent, to close at 6,643.68.

The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 97.74 points, or 0.44 percent, to reach 22,482.44, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 303.56 points, or 0.66 percent, to close at 46,250.88.
