The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) unanimously adopted on Thursday a resolution to benefit from artificial intelligence for sustainable development purposes.
The UNGA said the resolution stressed the need to bridge gaps in this field and other digital gaps between and within countries.
The design of artificial intelligence systems and their use in an improper or malicious manner, such as without adequate guarantees or in a manner inconsistent with international law, poses risks that could hinder the achievement of sustainable development goals, it said.
The UNGA also decided to encourage safe, secure and reliable AI systems to accelerate progress towards the full realization of the Sustainable Development Agenda, calling on Member States and stakeholders to develop and support approaches and frameworks to regulate the governance of AI systems
