The Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS) has been carrying out the process of calibrating the fare metres for Karwa taxis of Mowasalat. A team of specialised engineers and technicians from the Legal and Industrial Calibration Section at QS Central Laboratories Department conducts daily metre calibrations for a number of Karwa taxis. The team will continue calibrating metres for every taxi in the company periodically to ensure their accuracy.
The Central Laboratories Department at QS is responsible for various tasks, including conducting tests and examinations to grant quality marks and certificates of conformity to standard specifications in co-ordination with relevant authorities. It also calibrates and stamp precious metals and gemstones in accordance with established regulations, co-ordinate with accredited calibration laboratories to provide services in this field, calibrate and stamp measuring instruments and scales in accordance with laws and regulations, issue inspection and testing reports for goods, products, and materials subject to Qatari standard specifications.
The laboratories also provide support for research activities, offer technical and analytical consultations in the field of inspection and analysis, provide services related to examining and testing goods, products, and services to ensure their quality level and compliance with approved standard specifications in the country, in accordance with applicable regulations.
The Central Laboratories further conduct research and studies related to inspection and testing methods for goods and products during the preparation of standard specification projects, participates in proposing regulations and systems related to the accreditation of non-governmental laboratories and service providers, and assists in implementing these regulations and systems after their approval.
