1614 Coffee Lounge has opened its branch at Katara Tasty Street, offering a curated menu of specialty drinks and an array of desserts. “We wanted to bring something truly unique and authentic to our coffee-loving community,” store owner Jassim Ahmed al-Shafai said, as he shared his excitement about the new venture during an interview with the Gulf Times.
With its main store already established in the Aziziya area, 1614 has strategically expanded its reach to the northern part of Doha – a bustling destination that comes alive from 4pm to 12 midnight.
Al-Shafai, a coffee enthusiast himself, said the name ‘1614’ holds a special significance as it marks the period when the first coffee brewing method was discovered. “Our inspiration for the name and our logo, featuring a lady from the artwork 'The Coffee Carrier' by an artist named James, is to spark curiosity and engage our patrons in the rich history behind coffee,” he stressed.
He noted that the menu at 1614 Coffee Lounge is a testament to the diversity of coffee blends and flavours, catering to a wide range of preferences. From the ever-popular Iced Spanish Latte to the rich and creamy Tiramisu Latte, the offerings promise to transport customers on a journey of taste and aroma.
The coffee lounge also boasts an impressive selection of beverages, including the refreshing Ice Pistachio Latte, the bold Cortado, and the soothing Lavender Tea, which the owner says is an exclusive drink at the shop.
He said coffee, however, is not the only star of the show but also offers a delectable assortment of sweets and pastries. The saffron cake, pecan tart, Oreo Truffle, and chocolate cubes filled with marshmallows and biscuits are among the favourites.
The menu also features Granola with Greek yogurt, offering a delightful and wholesome option to complement the coffee choices.
When asked about the choice of Katara Tasty Street for the new branch, al-Shafai said that in today's world, convenience and accessibility are key factors in a business's success.
He said Katara Tasty Street not only allows 1614 to reach a wider audience but also aligns with the modern trend of online orders and delivery services. He added that the 'Park and Go' scheme, which is gaining traction, offers customers hassle-free options.
With a deep-rooted history, a commitment to quality, and an array of flavours that awaken the senses, al-Shafai said 1614 promises an unforgettable experience for both coffee aficionados and dessert enthusiasts.
With a vibrant coffee scene and an increasingly popular tourism destination in the region, he hopes to expand their operations across the country in the near future.
