Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed, during a phone call on Tuesday, with the Interim President of Mali Assimi Goita, a number of issues of common concern, including the current situation in Niger.
During the phone call, Putin stressed the importance of a peaceful settlement of the ongoing developments in Niger, and the need to restore security in the Sahel region as a whole.
The Military Council in Niger announced on Sunday that they would "prosecute" President Mohamed Bazoum for "high treason" and "undermining the security" of the country.
