Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed 37,901 Udhiya (sacrificial animals) to more than 758,000 needy people in camps for the displaced and refugees in crisis areas and the poorest communities in 39 countries around the world, a statement said Tuesday.
The areas covered were the Syrian interior, Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, and Somalia. Benin, Pakistan, Somalia, Burundi, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kosovo, Turkiye, Montenegro, Nepal, Tunisia, Senegal, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Ghana, Mali, India, Gambia, Morocco, Lebanon, Malaysia, Jordan, South Africa, Niger, , the Philippines, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Djibouti, and Mauritania.
The project was praised by many government agencies, who thanked QC and the people of Qatar for their humanitarian role. Mahmoud Muallem, director of the Somali Disaster Management Authority, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to QC for its support and interest in improving the conditions of needy communities.
Pakistani minister Sardar Zia Qamar thanked QC teams and donors from Qatar for the success of the project.
In Pakistan, 21,000 people benefited, including those affected by the floods. Mohamed Shiraz said: “I lost my livestock in the floods of 2022, and I have no source of income. Thank you to the people in Qatar and Qatar Charity for the support they provided me with this Eid".
In Yemen, 5,700 families comprising about 40,000 people benefited from the project which saw aid distributed in several governorates, including Sana'a, Taiz, Dhamar, Ibb.
Khaled al-Mahfadi, one of the beneficiaries, said: "I came from a far place to receive the Udhiya because I was unable to buy one. The joy of Eid was complete with the happiness of my children thanks to Qatar Charity."
In Somalia, QC distributed 8,412 Udhiya for the benefit of more than 200,000 people, including orphans and displaced and needy families.
Mohamed Youssef, one of the beneficiaries, said: "We are facing very difficult circumstances and we cannot even get our daily sustenance, but thanks to Qatar Charity, we celebrated Eid. Thank you to the people in Qatar and Qatar Charity."
