Emergency sections at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received a total of 1,577 cases of various illnesses and 67 cases of accidents on Wednesday, the first day of Eid al-Adha. Local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' reported that the ambulance service centres at HMC received 263 calls, including 196 cases of illness and 67 cases of accidents.
Ali Darwish, assistant executive director, Ambulance Service, HMC, explained that one sick case was required to be transported by air ambulance due to the distance. There were no major cases from 6am to 6pm. Most of the cases, reported from adults and children, were minor to moderate related to the digestion problems. The doctors at HMC have urged the public not to overeat meat and sweets, especially those with chronic diseases.
Dr Aftab Mohamed, acting head of Emergency Sections at HMC, said that 435 emergency cases were received in the Emergency and Accident Department of Hamad General Hospital, including 65 accidents, 76 cases of digestive problems, and 294 cases of isolated diseases. He urged all to avoid excessive sweets, fatty foods or fast food because of their direct impact on the health of people with chronic diseases and patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
According to Dr Mohamed al-Amiri, head of the Paediatric Department and director of Paediatric Emergency at HMC, 523 cases were received by Al-Sadd Children's Emergency Department, 235 by the Paediatric Emergency Department at Al-Rayyan Health Centre and 53 by the Paediatric Emergency Department at Al-Daayen Health Centre. These are in addition to 100 cases received by the Paediatric Emergency Department at the Airport Health Centre and 163 cases received by the Paediatric Emergency Department at Al-Wakra Health Centre.
The Paediatric Emergency Department at Al Khor Health Centre received 68 cases, 46 of which were admitted under observation.
