In an attempt to create a Guinness World Record, a group of students from College of North Atlantic - Qatar (CNA-Q) has set up the largest printed poster of Tamim Al Majd, at an island near Ritz Carlton Doha.

“The Tamim Al Majd poster, measuring over 16,000sqm, will enter into the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest poster in the world, breaking the previous record of 15,000sqm set by Switzerland, Faisal Saif al-Muhannadi, a student of CNA-Q who came up with the idea along with his friends, told Gulf Times.

"Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records are in the process of measuring the poster's entire area and hopefully will declare it as the biggest poster so far,” he explained.

“The island, owned by Katara Hospitality, will go into history as the venue that hosted the largest poster in the world. The poster is exactly 16,101sqm when we measured it after setting it on the island. It is made of flex banner paper 610gm, which is 128m high and 125m wide” explained al-Muhannadi.

“The poster, printed in Shanghai, China, consists of 104 pieces. It took us more than 10 days to prepare and set the poster at a height of 50cm above the ground on the island,” he continued.

According to al-Muhannadi, a lot of preparation and planning have gone into the making of the poster. “We started planning for it around the first week of September. Then we started the activities in full steam with the support of many of our friends and sponsors,” noted al-Muhannadi.

The young Qatari maintained that it was a matter of great pride and happiness as he and his team were able to contribute something for the country and express their love and regards for His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

“Through this poster, we want to show how we love the country and our beloved Emir. We are grateful to Katara Hospitality which is the platinum sponsor of the event. They provided us all the support and assistance and even the land to set up the poster. We are a group of 14 students both male and female who contributed to the realisation of the project,” he pointed out.

Al-Muhannadi said that the poster can be seen in full from the 19th floor of Ritz Carlton Doha. The two day exhibition of the poster which started yesterday will continue today also from 4pm to 10pm for the public.

According to Salem al-Kubaisi, chief corporate services officer, Katara Hospitality, his group has been very happy to support the initiative. “Katara Hospitality has provided all the support for the event. We prepared the area of the island and handed over to the students to set up the photo. We also provided all the logistic support,” he added.
