Al Ahli Hospital opened a new centre for cardiac services and treatment at a special ceremony yesterday.
Board of directors chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Thani al-Thani cut the ribbon to open the new centre while Al Ahli Heart Centre chairman Dr Abdurrazzak Gehani led a tour of the facility.
Also present on the occasion were Al Ahli Hospital chief executive Khalid al-Emadi, deputy chief executive and director of projects Jamal Saleh Hammad, and other senior officials.
Dr Gehani said that the new heart centre brings together all the important cardiac services.
“It would include cardiac surgery, cardiac cauterisation, diagnosis, intervention, echocardiography, and many more,” the heart centre chief said.
“We are able to provide advanced surgery, bypass surgery and all other important cardiac facilities and services,” Dr Gehani added. “All these are put together with a team of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and cardiac anaesthetists.”
“It is a comprehensive one and we have all the advanced equipment for the centre and we will be happy to add any emerging technology and equipment in future,” he explained.
“Another important integration that we have made is between the cardiac centre and the diabetic service,” Dr Gehani added. “It is important because a large number of diabetic patients have cardiac diseases. It is called cardiac metabolic unit and it is one of the first in Qatar and the Gulf.”
“We have a very important service to receive acute heart attack patients and do immediate services to take the patient to the emergency treatment and open the blocks,” he explained.
“It is a 24/7 service and any urgent patient will be taken care of immediately. There is provision for immediate transfer of the patients from emergency to the cardiac centre,” Dr Gehani said.
The new centre has 10 intensive care beds and five outpatient clinics as well as two fully-equipped diagnostic echocardiography units.
All the services of the centre are fully linked with the emergency department.
“This is a centre of excellence. It has all the equipment, services and qualified personnel to conduct any kind of procedure or services that comes under cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery,” Hammad said. “You will find the same type of services and equipment that are available in a centre of excellence in cardiology anywhere in the country or the region.”
