Dialogue is the only way to resolve the Gulf crisis, Qatar’s ambassador to Moldova, Mohamed Ali al-Malkim, has stressed pointing out that the crisis was sparked by the Saudi-led bloc to impose guardianship on Qatar.
In an interview with LP Magazine, the ambassador said that Qatar did not enter the regional conflict by choice, but rather it was surprised and found itself facing a plan hatched by the siege countries (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt).
The ambassador said that cutting off diplomatic relations and slapping economic sanctions on Qatar is aimed at imposition of the four countries’ concept of foreign policy on Qatar, “which will put the State in a position that will endanger our independence and sovereignty”, adding that this cannot be accepted by the Qatari leadership or the people.
The ambassador said that the issuance of laws in the four countries that prevent expression of sympathy with Qatar confirms their desire to blur the truth they fear.
He added that despite the threats and warnings, Qatar, since the beginning of the crisis, has maintained its stance that dialogue is the only way to resolve it, and therefore it welcomed the mediation by Kuwait. Qatar also stressed the need to resolve the crisis within the framework of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC).
Al-Malkim pointed out that Qatar and its people, led by His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, have taken a number of effective measures to counter external pressures, threats and blackmail from the very first days of the crisis and the siege imposed on the country.
“We have proved to the world, and above all to those who want to defame our country with lies and perverse claims, that the truth is on our side,” he added.
On bilateral relations between Qatar and Moldova, the ambassador said that the diplomatic relations, which began 20 years ago, are constantly evolving, and have culminated with the opening of the embassies of the two countries in Doha and Chisinau. He expressed the hope that signing agreements will increase bilateral co-operation and raise the relations to a higher level.
