A group of six students of Birla Public School (BPS) won the third position in the first international kite flying competition held at the Aspire Park, organised by Aspire Zone Foundation (AFZ), Qatar. This was held to celebrate the art of kite flying.
Hosting an event of this nature is evidence of Aspire Zone Foundation’s commitment to deliver a wide range of activities, offering something for everyone and encouraging community participation.  It also highlights Qatar’s growing profile as a destination of choice for tourists and visitors. The aim of the event is to put Qatar on international map; AFZ wants people to travel to Doha.
Even today, kites retain a fascination, and the ability to build a good kite is a skill that is prized by many, yet seemingly possessed by few. Making a kite requires a combination of several skills. The maker must display a great deal of manual dexterity, must be able to read a scale plan and follow instructions if making a kite from a book, and most importantly, be able to identify and solve the many problems that can prevent a kite from flying well.
These skills are relatively easy to acquire, and can lead to many hours of enjoyment. They can also be applied to many aspects of the curriculum of upper primary and junior secondary classes. According to AFZ, kite flying is enormously popular around the world.
It is delighted to bring this unique competition and event to Aspire Park.  They hope to see families and children of all ages from across Qatar, enjoy the rich and varied programmes and try many of the fantastic activities on offer.
Amelia, Nandana, Thomson, Rachna, Armitha, all of grade 6 and Sanjina of grade 4 were the winning participants.
Sreejith C K, Dolhpy Rego, Ravikumar Chatty, Prafulla Kumar and Regent Varghese were the teachers that guided the students and lent support.
