Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a new initiative, ‘Zhaab’ yesterday to help and support communities and families in need in the country.
Zhaab, themed ‘A Duty, not a Favor,’ is a colloquial Qatari word that refers to a personal object of great value be it moral or material, and in this context — the Qatari society, QC said. The initiative, under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, offers financial aid to impoverished and vulnerable segments of the society.
In his speech, QC CEO Yusuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari said HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani have stressed the importance of giving back to the community to establish a society based on justice, charity and equality, as stated in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
“Our ultimate goal is to create a well-developed society built on the basis of human equality and social justice,” he stressed.
Zhaab will give its beneficiaries the needed tools to earn a steady income and become self-reliant and lead a decent life.
QC will run a campaign to receive donations under the name of ‘Zokhor’, a monthly donation plan established through Qatari banks to facilitate the donation process and make it more convenient to the donor.
Zhaab will also see QC forging strategic partnerships with government and non-governmental organisations in Qatar engaged in aiding the needy, according to al-Kuwari. Such close collaborations, he added, will significantly contribute in achieving national goals in the field of social, economic, and human development.
While a number of humanitarian initiatives and charity programmes are already supporting poor families and individuals locally and abroad, Zhaab executive director Talal al-Kuwari stressed that “there has always been an urgent need for a national initiative to provide aid and assistance to members of the local communities in particular.”
“One of our main objectives is to support all segments of society in addition to safeguarding their rights and values, and empowering them to play an active role in social development,” he said.
QC will use several mechanisms to identify and reach its target beneficiaries, mainly poor families and individuals, across Qatar. “We will come to them before they come to us,” the CEO said, adding that they will also seek the community’s help and maximise the use of social media to intensify their campaign.
To ensure the success of this initiative, QC put a carefully set criteria in place to evaluate the applications requesting support, as well as provide the needed and right assistance to beneficiaries. “Our mission does not end when we just lend a helping hand to the needy, rather, we seek long-term comprehensive solutions to the challenges they face,” the executive director said.
To apply for support or to donate money to support the initiative, people are advised visit the Zhaab office or QC offices.
