Early morning rains and drizzles did not dampen the enthusiasm of senior government officials and dignitaries who took part in the National Sport Day (NSD) celebration at The Pearl-Qatar on Tuesday.

The annual event started with a walkathon at 7.30am led by United Development Company (UDC) president and CEO Ibrahim Jassim al-Othman, Qatar Airways (QA) Group chief executive Akbar al-Baker, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) chairman Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al-Subaey, along with UDC marketing and communications department director Hussain Akbar al-Baker.
Visitors, including government employees, parents and children, took part in several recreational and fun-filled activities such as warm-ups, walking, jogging, tug of war, as well as some exercises for women, at a number of zones between 29 and 30 La Croisette Porto Arabia.
“Qatar’s NSD reflects the vision of the wise leadership for building individuals and society. Its key message is that sport should be a part of the culture and life of individuals and society, and one aspect of investing in the human element,” HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim bin Saif al-Sulaiti said in a statement.
Citing the importance of sport in cementing positive values, al-Baker said QA is proud to take part in the MoTC’s events on the occasion of NSD in line with QNV 2030 to encourage participation in cultural and sporting activities.
Al-Subaey noted that the initiative of designating a NSD “reflected the great attention” Qatar pays to sport, aiming to build a healthy and fit society, and promote the role of sport in the lives of individuals.
Communications Regulatory Authority president Mohamed Ali al-Mannai added that NSD is an excellent initiative that has seen great success in helping promote the benefits of an active lifestyle across the nation.
The MoTC and UDC were joined in the celebrations by the QCAA, CRA, QA, Mowasalat (Karwa), Qatar Railways Company, Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani), Qatar Satellite Company (Es’hailSat), Qatar Aeronautical College, Hamad International Airport, Hamad Port, General Retirement & Social Insurance Authority, Qatar Postal Services Company, Qatar Assistive Technology Centre (Mada), malomatia and the Qatar National Broadband Network.
