A two-day career fair for the students of the Education City got underway at the Student Centre of the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) yesterday with the participation of about 100 organisations.
The fair was opened by Maryam Hamad al-Mannai, vice president of Student Affairs at HBKU and Paulo Macedo, general manager, corporate affairs and deputy country chairman of Qatar Shell along with deans and officials of HBKU and its partner universities.
The Education City Career Fair 2017, sponsored by Qatar Shell, has the participation of leading private companies, semi government organisations as well as some government entities.

The fair offers students and alumni from all universities in Education City the opportunity to interact with representatives of the participating organisations.
Potential employers at the fair include companies from the energy, finance, technology, medicine, education, and media sectors.
The fair encourages participants to explore a wide range of career options when considering their future profession.
Across the two days, the event anticipates attracting in excess of 1,000 highly qualified job seekers from the Education City student community.
The interactions with the organisations are intended to assist participants in becoming familiar with each employer’s work culture, operating style, hiring programmes, and specific current needs.
Collaborating in the event with HBKU are Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, HEC Paris in Qatar, and UCL Qatar.
Al-Mannai pointed out that several ministries are participating in the fair for the first time this year.
Adam Ahmad al-Saadi, director, Career Development Centre, HBKU, recalled that during the last two years, about 1,000 students each visited the career fair.
“We expect that more students will visit the fair this year and benefit from it. We had conducted a survey with the students and the companies after last year’s fair and found out the needs and requirements of the students and the employers,” he added.
