The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) has invited nominations for WISE Prize for Education 2017. Nominations can be submitted until March 31.
Established in 2011 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and the founder of WISE, the WISE Prize for Education is the first of its kind to recognise an individual or a team for an outstanding, world-class contribution to education.
The laureate of the WISE Prize for Education is usually announced at the opening plenary session of the global biennial summit, and receives a gold WISE Prize for Education medal and $500,000.
The WISE Prize for Education recognises an individual, or a team of up to six who have made a mark in the education field. The nominated individual or team should have had a significant and lasting impact upon education at any level and should demonstrate an inspiring and visionary approach.
Those who would like to make a nomination can create an account and complete the official nomination form available on the WISE online application system. Self-nomination will not be accepted.
The nomination should demonstrate how the individual or the team has brought about substantial change and improvement to education and made a lasting impact on a significant scale. The nomination form should be completed in English.
All the nominations will be screened by an expert committee which will make a pre-selection of no more than 15 candidates whose identities will not be made public.
A distinguished international jury will then consider the nominees and select the laureate who will be announced at WISE 2017.
The 2017 WISE summit will be held from November 14-16 in Doha.
The WISE Prize for Education raises the status of education by giving it similar prestige enjoyed in other areas for which international recognition exists; such as literature, peace, and economics.
The WISE Prize for Education laureates are inspiring role models for all those dedicated to building the future of education as the foundation for a more secure, prosperous, and sustainable world.
WISE, a global initiative of Qatar Foundation, has so far honoured five educational luminaries from around the world with the WISE Prize for Education, for their significant efforts and achievements in education.
These laureates are: Sir Fazle Hasan Abed (2011); Dr. Madhav Chavan (2012); Vicky Colbert (2013); Ann Cotton (2014) and Dr. Sakena Yacoobi (2015).
