For Salam International Investment Limited (SIIL) chairman and CEO Issa AbdulSalam Abu Issa, there is no better way to celebrate the present than to pause and revisit the past.

SIIL’s photography exhibition titled 'Moments in memory of HH the Grandfather Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani', which runs until January 7 at The Gate Mall’s Maysaloun Hall is a tribute to the former leader.
“Observing the life and times of a leader, the people, the places and the occasions chronicled here, create a unique opportunity to revive positive memories among the older generation while impacting and inspiring the young,” the SIIL senior official said in a message published in a booklet about the exhibition.
'Moments' features images showing HH the Grandfather Emir’s domestic and overseas engagements during his reign, including a visit from Queen Elizabeth II and former Egyptian president Jamal AbdulNaser.
The exhibition portrays Sheikh Khalifa’s work in establishing a network of diplomatic connections aimed at strengthening Qatar’s relationships with countries around the world.
Apart from hosting several events to welcome world leaders, HH the Grandfather Emir was also pictured having a light moment with representatives from the UAE in a sport event.
In another section of the exhibition, a number of pictures showed an old aerial shot of Doha and Dafna, and the old Salam Studio, as well as the opening of the first restaurant at the building.
“These images brought out from our archives not only display the strength of past leadership through the life of Sheikh Khalifa, but they also tell us part of the story of our beloved land,” Abu Issa said.
He noted that his father, a lensman, SIIL founder AbdulSalam Mohammed Abu Issa, captured these images at personal, political and ceremonial occasions – “moments that open a window into the past.”
