Residents and visitors from other GCC countries are thronging the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) to spend another weekend of fun and excitement at the 29,000sqm Entertainment City.

Dubbed as ‘Colour Your Summer,’ the month-long Qatar Summer Festival (QSF) 2016 continues to welcome a large number of families and children with a wide range of amusement rides, games and other entertainment activities.

A staff assigned at the ‘Thrill zone’ told Gulf Times that the festival has been receiving many visitors from Saudi Arabia since day one.

“We expect more to come in the coming the days, they all enjoy the fun here, particularly the rides that we offer,” she noted. “This is a big treat for children.”

The Entertainment Stage also continues to attract and engage many children to various games and activities.

Another big hit at the City is the Go Karting zone, which delights many young race enthusiasts, as well as adults, who have the chance to test their racing skills at a small track indoor.

The water rides, some of the new attractions in this year’s festival, have seen long queues of customers who patiently wait for their turn.

Many couples were seen trying out the ‘Skill Games zone’ with a chance to win prizes, mostly novelty stuff toys.

A number of activities such as mini basketball and mini football received praise from many parents who said they promote exercise and an active lifestyle.

Children are also delighted with the ‘real life’ games such as Angry Bird at the Giant Games zone.

“I had so much fun because here I am the one pulling the string with an ‘Angry Bird’ on it,” a child said. “It’s more fun when you hit the target.”

Other attractions include a giant inflatable play area, video and tech games, reading section set up by Qatar Foundation’s National Reading Campaign, karaoke, food court, and ‘Colour Your Summer’ zone, among others.

The festival, organised by Qatar Tourism Authority, is aimed at further boosting the country’s hospitality and retail sectors during a typically off-peak season.

Besides promoting and showcasing Qatar as a family destination, QSF also aims to attract more domestic and foreign visitors through sustainable and long term tourism events. It will conclude on August 31 with a spectacular fireworks display on the Doha Corniche.
