A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Sudanese expatriate to six months in jail for stealing from a commercial outlet, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The court has also ordered his deportation on completion of the prison term, the daily adds.
The theft took place at a shop in Al Shahaniyah after the shopkeeper closed the outlet and stepped out for Friday prayers. A few hours after he returned, the shopkeeper found QR10,000, some mobile recharge cards and other currency notes missing.
He went through CCTV footage and spotted a person hiding on an upper floor of the shop while the outlet was closed. When the shop reopened, he was seen mingling with other shoppers and leaving with the booty after paying for some items he had bought.
The shopkeeper informed the police and provided the CCTV footage to them. Once arrested, the accused admitted to having committed the crime and said he did so as he was facing some financial problems.
