Qatar Airways has more than 20 specialised workshops in Doha to maintain its fleet and support other technical aspects of its aircraft, according to the airline’s latest statistics. Qatar Airways also disclosed that 10 wide-body aircraft exteriors will be painted in Doha by this December, and over 150 aircraft are equipped with Starlink. Qatar Airways is the operator of the world’s first and largest Starlink-equipped wide-body fleet. Moreover, 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft will be equipped with Starlink by the year-end. During a media tour of the carrier’s Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility on Wednesday, officials explained how these workshops support the airline’s smooth operations and the specialised work carried out there. Ali AlSaadi, chief MRO officer, told Gulf Times that the facility was set up when Hamad International Airport became operational. According to AlSaadi, Qatar Airways maintains its own aircraft in-house, from routine checks to full structural overhauls, backed by more than 20 specialised workshops in Doha covering everything from avionics to cabin interiors. “To ensure Qatar Airways traffic becomes smooth, we work hand-in-hand with multiple units, warehouses, technical facilities, and so on. We all share the same vision to ensure that we get the aircraft fine and fit,” said AlSaadi. The official said everything is done behind the scenes to ensure customers have the best experience. He explained: “What we do here is basically maintenance, repair, and to an extent, overhaul of Qatar Airways engines. We support the plan of the national carrier to upgrade its facilities. Part of our focus, over the past several years, has been to focus on Qatar Vision 2030 and include all the initiatives to bring in true value for the country and focus on capabilities, and increasing our output to meet the growing demand.” In addition, the airline has about 80 spare engines in the facility to back up the fleet. AlSaadi said the spare engines are sufficient to meet any eventuality and fulfil the fleet’s needs. He also highlighted that it is one of the biggest engine facilities in the world. The MRO unit’s in-house capabilities include several technical aspects, such as maintenance inspections to ensure the fleet remains safe, reliable, and ready to operate throughout peak travel periods. Other capabilities include structural inspections, aircraft modifications, component overhaul and repair, avionics maintenance, and cabin interior and seat refurbishment. Meanwhile, Capt Clifford Chetcuti, the chief flight operations and CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation) officer, said that the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), the operational nerve centre of Qatar Airways, brings together specialists, technology, and real-time data to monitor and manage the airline’s global network around the clock. “The IOC continuously re-routes flights, re-plans schedules, and re-briefs the crew to keep the network resilient to whatever is happening beyond Qatar’s borders,” said Capt Chetcuti. The same real-time co-ordination underpins winter planning and positions aircraft, crew, and ground teams ahead of seasonal weather at destinations across the network. The officials also added that the airline’s Ground Services has enhanced staffing, optimised operational resources, deployed additional mobile kiosks, and activated extra check-in facilities to support growing passenger demand during the winter travel season.

Qatar University (QU) conducted a training workshop to equip staff with advanced analytical thinking skills, enabling them to interpret data, draw meaningful conclusions, and provide evidence-based recommendations to guide university decision-making.Organised by the Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness Office, the workshop, titled “Analytical Thinking Skills in the University Workplace: From Data Collection to Decision-Making”, brought together staff from the QU’s Department of Strategy and Performance Quality and the Department of Institutional Analytics and Research.Delivered by Institutional Analytics and Research Department manager Dr Mahmood Ahmed, the workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ analytical capabilities, helping them move beyond basic data collection to meaningful analysis aligned with the QU’s strategic objectives.The sessions covered a wide range of applied topics, including analytical thinking methodologies, transforming numerical data into actionable insights through pattern and relationship analysis, distinguishing correlation from causation, evaluating evidence quality, and developing institutional recommendations linked to strategic indicators.The workshop featured practical exercises and case studies drawn from the QU’s work environment.Dr Muna al-Marzouqi, the vice-president for Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness, emphasised that the initiative forms part of the Office’s ongoing professional development efforts.She highlighted its role in fostering a unified institutional analytical culture, improving the quality of reports and analyses, and strengthening collaboration between planning, performance, and institutional research units to support the University’s development and transformation journey. 

Diabetes Qatar organised a specialised training course for school nurses on January 30-31 at its headquarters, with 23 participants, aimed at strengthening school nurses' competencies and equipping them to safely and effectively support students living with diabetes within the school environment.The course is part of Diabetes Qatar's ongoing efforts to raise health awareness and develop the professional skills of personnel working in the educational sector, helping ensure a safe and supportive school environment for students with diabetes and reducing risks associated with emergency situations.The training programme included scientific lectures and practical workshops covering methods for managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, carbohydrate counting as a key factor in controlling blood glucose levels, and the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity for students’ health.The course also addressed the use of the latest monitoring technologies, such as continuous glucose monitoring sensors and insulin pumps, and their roles in improving the quality of life for students living with diabetes and in facilitating accurate, continuous glucose monitoring.In addition, the course featured interactive training sessions designed to prepare participants for everyday situations that students with diabetes may face in schools, including organising meal times, monitoring blood sugar levels before and after sports classes, and responding rapidly to emergencies to ensure student safety and prevent health complications.At the conclusion of the course, participants received certificates of participation.Diabetes Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its efforts to qualify school nursing staff and enhance the level of care and support provided to students with diabetes within the educational environment. 

Qatar University (QU) and Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defence Studies have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing joint co-operation between the two parties in scientific and practical fields, at the premises of Qatar University campus. The signing of the MoU came as part of the parties’ keenness to exchange expertise and information, co-operate in organising conferences, seminars, and training workshops, in addition to developing research and studies of mutual interest, achieving integration and contributing to improving performance efficiency in line with the requirements and standards of total quality. On this occasion, QU’s President Dr Omar al-Ansari affirmed that the signing of this MoU reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships with various national sectors, noting that this co-operation will contribute to developing the education, training, and scientific research system between the two sides. For his part, President of the Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defence Brigadier General Dr Rajeh Mohammed bin Aqeel al-Nabit stated, “This memorandum is not merely an agreement but an extension of a successful and productive path of co-operation between both sides. This step continues what began in 2018, when the academy signed an agreement with the university to implement a Master’s programme in defence studies, which helped prepare distinguished national cadres who combine academic knowledge with professional expertise in the defence field. Today, we build on that achievement to expand areas of co-operation and develop joint programmes that meet the State’s strategic needs and to strengthen institutional integration in research, innovation, and capacity building.
