Qatar took a significant step towards formalising and expanding its volunteer sector Sunday with the launch of the National Volunteer Platform, a unified digital portal designed to bring scattered volunteering efforts under a single, regulated framework and amplify their long-term social impact.The platform was inaugurated by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali al-Thani, under the auspices of His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani. Carrying the slogan "A Lasting Impact", it forms a centrepiece of the Ministry of Social Development and Family's (MSDF) 2025-2030 strategy.The portal is intended to serve as a single point of contact between volunteers and accredited organisations, licensing entities that offer volunteering opportunities and making those opportunities accessible across all segments of society. Among its core functions are volunteer registration, the documentation of volunteer hours, the issuance of recognised certificates, access to training programmes, a mutual evaluation system, and the generation of data and reports to inform policymakers. It will also maintain a national database to support planning and measure social impact.The initiative ties into the priorities of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy — particularly the Fourth National Outcome, which calls for a cohesive and responsible society.Speaking at the launch, Her Excellency Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi described volunteering as more than a moral duty, calling it a pillar of national identity and a driver of solidarity and social cohesion. She said the platform marked a "qualitative leap" — moving the sector from a patchwork of individual initiatives to a structured national system combining organisation, motivation, digitalisation and capacity building.Her Excellency credited the achievement to a long institutional partnership between government bodies, civil society and the private sector, all of which helped shape the policies, guidelines and regulatory frameworks underpinning the platform. The launch, she stressed, was a starting point rather than a destination, and sustained cooperation would be essential to embed volunteering as a lasting national practice.Director of the Community Development Department at MSDF, Nasser al-Mughaisib, presented an overview of the platform's development, describing it as the product of extensive consultations and studies with partners. He said the work had produced a comprehensive regulatory framework — backed by legislation and procedural guidelines — for which the platform now serves as the operational arm, unifying opportunities, building organisational capacity and enabling impact measurement.He added that the next phase would focus on consolidating a sustainable volunteering ecosystem, deepening community participation and reinforcing the role of volunteer work in Qatar's wider development drive.  

 From a small school field in a remote village to the grandest stage of international football, Abjol Ahmed’s journey has now become an inspiring reality. The Qatar-based expatriate has been selected as a volunteer for the FIFA World Cup 2026, marking a significant milestone in his life.Ahmed will serve as a hospitality volunteer at the iconic MetLife Stadium in the United States. The stadium is scheduled to host several key matches, including the final, making his role even more prestigious and memorable.This will be his second FIFA World Cup volunteering experience, having previously served successfully in an earlier edition of the tournament. His passion and long-standing commitment to volunteering have played a crucial role in reaching this remarkable stage.The upcoming World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, featuring an expanded format with 48 teams. Out of nearly 1mn applicants worldwide, only around 65,000 volunteers have been selected — placing Abjol Ahmed among a highly competitive and elite group.His journey, however, was not easy. From the initial application and selection process to interviews, shift assignments, and visa procedures, he navigated a long and challenging path. After successfully completing all stages, he is now fully prepared for his new mission.If all goes as planned, Ahmed is expected to travel to the United States in the first week of June. His achievement is not only a personal success but also a proud moment for his home country. 

The Ministry of Culture (MoC), in co-operation with the Qatar Volunteer Centre and the Qatar Centre for Cultural and Heritage Events, has announced a volunteer opportunity for the "Al-Razji" event. This initiative aims to support community engagement and promote a culture of voluntary work in cultural and heritage events across the country.The volunteer opportunity seeks male and female volunteers aged 17-45 to help organise and manage the event, which will take place from February 25-March 3, daily from 7:30pm-1:00am.Volunteer tasks include reception and registration, organisation, general supervision, media specialisation, guidance, administrative and medical support, and providing volunteers with diverse practical experience in event management and teamwork.The organisers emphasised that this initiative is part of their ongoing efforts to empower youth and foster a sense of social responsibility by engaging them in organising cultural events that highlight national identity and reinforce heritage values. The initiative also provides an interactive, hands-on work environment that allows volunteers to develop their communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.Those interested in participating are invited to register through the "Qatar Volunteer" online platform. The organisers noted that volunteer work is a cornerstone of the success of major events and reflects the community's awareness of the importance of actively contributing to the nation and participating in shaping cultural events. The “Al Razji 2026” programme includes a range of specialised exhibitions that embody the diversity and richness of Qatari heritage.These include: the Collectibles Exhibition, which offers a window into the memory of the place through rare heritage pieces; the “Abq”(Arabic for scent) Perfume Exhibition, which draws inspiration from the spirit of traditional scents and reinterprets them in an artistic form; The Animation Exhibition, which brings folk tales to life with a modern visual style; and the “Mazlaj” Photography Exhibition, which documents the aesthetics of Qatari architecture and environment through a creative lens.The event also features specialised workshops for visitors aged 15 and above, including gypsum carving, palm frond fan-making, learning the embroidery “Naqda” stitch, pottery-making, and wood painting. These workshops are offered in an interactive educational space that revives traditional crafts and ensures their continued relevance across generations.
