The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) hosted a student delegation from various schools and educational levels as part of efforts to promote alternative dispute resolution. The visits, organised by the centre, in co-operation with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Ambassadors Centre, included a comprehensive introductory programme during which the centre’s experts delivered awareness lectures on the nature of arbitration and its importance as a modern means of dispute resolution, in addition to reviewing its fundamentals and most prominent applications in Qatar. It also organised a practical simulation of a real arbitration session, in which students participated in different roles, with the aim of familiarising them with the mechanisms of arbitration sessions and the roles of arbitrators, lawyers, and disputing parties. Ibrahim Shahbek, secretary general of QICCA, stressed that the initiative comes within a broader national strategy aimed at spreading the culture of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods within Qatari society and among younger generations, thereby contributing to strengthening the rule of law and enhancing the country’s business environment. In turn, the participating students and accompanying supervisors expressed their appreciation for this interactive experience, praising the importance of enhancing legal awareness among young people and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application in the fields of arbitration and dispute resolution. 

QNB Group has been named ‘Sustainable Lender of the Year’ at the 2026 Middle East Transition Finance Awards, organised by Environmental Finance. Selected by an independent panel of industry experts, the award recognises QNB Group’s leadership in advancing sustainable finance and its commitment to supporting economic growth across the region. By the end of 2025, QNB Group’s sustainable financing portfolio reached approximately $11.34bn, representing a 21% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by expansion across green, social, and sustainability-linked loans, alongside increased participation in sustainable syndications, with the group involved in approximately $20bn of sustainability-linked loan transactions. Green loans increased to $4.1bn, social loans reached $5.0bn, and sustainability-linked loans grew to $1.4bn, reflecting continued alignment of financing activities with sustainability objectives. The recognition reflects QNB Group’s continued efforts to integrate sustainability across its business activities and value chain. The group has made meaningful progress in expanding its sustainable finance portfolio and supporting clients’ transition journeys across key sectors, underpinned by a disciplined approach, robust frameworks, and alignment with international best practices.QNB Group’s sustainable finance activities are guided by its Sustainable Finance and Product Framework, aligned with international principles and best practices. The group has also demonstrated leadership in climate risk management, becoming the first bank in Qatar to announce a Net Zero 2050 ambition and among the first in the region to align its disclosures with International Financial Reporting Standards sustainability requirements, including independently assured, group-wide Scope 3 financed emissions. The recognition underscores QNB Group’s commitment to embedding sustainability at the core of its strategy, supporting clients in their transition to a low-carbon economy, and contributing to long-term value creation in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the development of a more sustainable economy.

Qatar participated in the 2026 Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) Green and Sustainable Development Forum, held on April 28-30 in Ningbo, China. Qatar’s delegation was led by Qatar’s Consul General in Shanghai Rashid bin Mubarak al-Khater.

The Ministry of Municipality affirmed its commitment to transforming waste into opportunities and building a more sustainable future, on the occasion of International Zero Waste Day, which falls on March 30th of each year, by promoting source segregation, advancing the circular economy, and achieving the goal of Qatar Zero Waste.The ministry affirmed in a post on X platform Monday that source segregation is the separation of waste inside the home from the very beginning into plastic, paper, metals, organic waste, and general waste, noting that a small step makes a big impact.The ministry explained that waste separation contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, limiting pollution, protecting the environment and natural resources, as well as reducing waste in landfills and enhancing the quality of life.In the context of its efforts, the ministry pointed to supporting recycling projects, conducting ongoing awareness campaigns, providing dedicated waste sorting bins, and improving waste management.The Ministry of Municipality called for the sorting of waste to begin, stressing the importance of community participation to achieve a cleaner environment and a better future. 

Barwa Real Estate Group has developed a comprehensive strategic plan for 2026, structured around three fundamental pillars, outlining next phase of growth."The plan seeks to secure sustainable returns, optimise shareholder value, and support the group’s contribution to the development of Qatar’s real estate sector," Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, Barwa chairman, said in the board report, tabled before shareholders annual general assembly meeting, which approved 18% cash dividend.Under its Pillar One – Revenue Growth and Maximisation of Investment Returns - the group is committed to achieving sustainable revenue and return growth through a strategic blend of operational project development and the augmentation of income-generating assets.Over the short to medium term, Barwa’s focus will be on increasing occupancy rates in newly developed projects, including “Madinatna,” “Argentine District,” and the third phase of “Mawater City”; maintaining and further enhancing high occupancy levels across existing assets; and optimising the utilisation of low-yield or underperforming assets.Barwa’s long-term growth plans are guided by its alignment with national initiatives aimed at realising the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which acts as a major catalyst for the economy and the real estate sector.As part of 2026 agenda, the group will explore expansion opportunities within the educational realty sector; complete development works for the “Madinatna School” project and the first and second phases of the “Barwa Hills” project.It would also advance the preparation of master plans and feasibility studies for future projects, including Phase Four of the “Mawater City” project; upcoming phases of the “Barwa Hills” project in Lusail City; and development studies for several plots of land owned by the group.It seeks to maximise the benefits of regulations permitting property ownership by non-Qataris, with the group having already launched two phases of the “Barwa Hills” project in preparation for future phases, alongside the launch of the “Barwa Royal” project.The plan also aims to strengthen partnerships with the public sector through active participation in public-private partnership (PPP) tenders, supporting national development programmes, particularly those related to the development of land for Qatari citizens’ housing.Barwa is also exploring new investment solutions for managing financial assets, thereby enhancing returns and improving the group’s investment structure.The second pillar involves pursuing initiatives to enhance the efficiency of operational, administrative, and financial processes, maximising resource utilisation while upholding service excellence and ensuring continued progress on development projects.The purposes of these initiatives include enhancing cost efficiency; increasing net financial returns; improving operational efficiency; and ensuring long-term profitability sustainability.Under Pillar Three – Brand Strengthening and Institutional Development - Barwa seeks to strengthen its market position through delivering real estate solutions in accordance with global standards; maintaining competitive pricing that caters to diverse client segments; and adopting innovative operational models that reflect the group’s commitment to continuous development. 

Nebras Energy is enhancing its global presence, even as it strengthens domestic operations through higher generating capacity stations and replacing older, lower-efficiency stations with newer and more efficient ones."Nebras Energy continues to strengthen its global presence, achieving sustainable growth and outstanding success in project development and investments worldwide," said its board report, presented before shareholders at the annual general assembly meeting, which approved 75% dividends.Nebras Energy is working with EDF (France), Sojitz (Japan), and Kyudan (Japan) on the construction of the 1,574 MW “Syrdarya 2” combined-cycle power plant project in Uzbekistan, with it holding a 3.33% stake. Commercial operation is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2026.Nebras is also working with EDF, Siemens (Germany), and Stone City (Netherlands) on the development of the 1,590 MW Surkhandraya combined-cycle power plant in Uzbekistan.The company holds a 35% stake in the project, which is expected to commence commercial operation in 2027.In December 2025, Nebras, along with Etihad W&E of the UAE and Bahwan of Oman, secured the Misfah project to build a 1,700 MW combined-cycle power plant in Oman, with it being the largest shareholder at 49%. It is slated to commence in the second quarter (Q2) of 2029.Also in December 2025, Nebras, along with KOWEPO of Korea, Etihad W&E, and Bahwan, secured the Duqm project to build an 877 MW combined-cycle power plant in Oman, with it holding a 30% stake. Commercial operation is expected to commence in Q2-2029.At the end of 2025, the company’s gross capacity reached 28.7 GW of electricity and 651mn gallons of water per day, distributed across 40 operational and development assets in 11 countries.On the domestic front, its future investment plans are based on meeting the growing demand for electricity and water by establishing stations with higher generating capacity and replacing older, lower-efficiency stations with newer and more efficient stations.Nebras has prioritised meeting Qatar’s electricity and water needs consistently through the operation, maintenance, and management of its power and water generating plants.Nebras operates in accordance with state guidelines and the Qatar National Vision 2030 to take advantage of all available opportunities to diversify energy sources.On Facility (E) “Ras Abu Fontas Power Company”, which has a total capacity of 2,410 MW of electricity and 110mn gallons per day of desalinated water; Nebras Energy said production at the plant is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2028, with full design capacity expected in the first half of 2029.Construction work on the RAF Peaker Unit project started in early 2025, with commercial operation scheduled to begin in early 2027. 

The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord) announced that the GCC Standardisation Organisation (GSO) has officially adopted Gord’s Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) as the regional Gulf Standard GSO 3000:2025 for sustainable buildings.This standard applies to the construction and building sector across all GCC countries, aiming to enhance the environmental performance and efficiency of urban projects throughout the region.The regional adoption of GSAS comes as part of GSO’s efforts to develop an integrated framework guiding building and construction practices across the Gulf region, ensuring a practical methodology for applying sustainability requirements within the wider Gulf Building Code. It also contributes to catalysing the implementation of green practices across both public and private projects while supporting sustainable development goals throughout the region.Dr Yousef Alhorr, founding chairman of Gord, said: “The GCC Standardisation Organisation’s adoption of GSAS under Standard GSO 3000:2025 marks a pivotal milestone in establishing sustainability benchmarks for the building and construction sector across the GCC.“That said, policies and standards are only effective when they are matched by skilled professionals who can put them into practice. This underscores the vital importance of capacity building through training programmes, ensuring that goals and standards are transformed into measurable results on the ground”.To support the effective regional implementation of the new standard, Gord, in collaboration with GSO, organised the first specialised training workshop on the GSAS framework at the GSO headquarters in Riyadh. The intensive three-day programme focused on the GSAS Design & Build (D&B) framework. It was attended by more than 75 participants from government agencies and relevant sectors across the GCC, as part of an effort to build the professional capacity required to ensure a comprehensive and effective rollout of the adopted Gulf standard.The workshop was led by experts from Gord’s Center of Excellence, GSAS Trust, who utilised an integrated approach that combines academic theory with practical application, ensuring full alignment with the broader Gulf Building Code. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering GSAS methodologies for assessing environmental performance across eight key categories that include energy, water, indoor environment, cultural & economic value, site, urban connectivity, materials, and management & operations. Beyond theoretical frameworks, attendees gained practical proficiency in core system tools, including GSAS calculators and GSASgate – the online platform designed to manage sustainable building projects and track assessment and certification processes.Beyond knowledge dissemination, the workshop serves as a critical bridge to the mandatory qualifying exam for becoming a D&B Certified Green Professional (CGP). Professionals who successfully pass the exam are authorised to lead GSAS projects. Furthermore, having accredited CGPs on staff allows organisations to qualify as GSAS service providers, enhancing their competitiveness in major projects that require documented sustainability standards. 

Under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar announced the provision of development and humanitarian support to Lebanon, totalling $434,248,000, benefiting more than 1.5mn people through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and in co-ordination with the relevant Lebanese authorities.The support includes a contribution of up to $400mn to support the energy sector, of which 10% has been allocated as a grant.It further extends to several vital sectors, including education through the provision of scholarships, strengthening the capacities of the Lebanese Armed Forces through the provision of vehicles and equipment, in addition to supporting the sports sector, contributing to youth empowerment.Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Co-operation Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad, who is also the and Vice Chairperson of the QFFD Board of Directors, stated: “This support reflects Qatar’s commitment to standing in solidarity with the brotherly Lebanese people and supporting their resilience, while fulfilling its humanitarian and development responsibilities toward brotherly nations and reinforcing the foundations of stability, peace and sustainable development.” 

The Public Works Authority "Ashghal" has announced that it has been awarded the Procurement Excellence Award from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).The award was granted to the Engineering Services Department, reflecting Ashghal's commitment to strengthening corporate governance, supporting digital transformation, and adopting sustainable procurement practices across its operations, all contributing to enhanced performance efficiency and maximised value.This recognition comes as a result of the outstanding evaluation results achieved by Ashghal in the efficiency and transparency of its procurement system, which covers supplier registration, prequalification, tendering, contract award, change management, payments, contract closure, and performance evaluation.The award underscores the Authority's dedication to applying global best practices in this field, as CIPS is one of the world's leading organisations specialising in procurement and supply chain management.By receiving this award, Ashghal joins a distinguished group of international institutions that have achieved advanced levels of excellence and innovation in procurement and supply chain operations. This accomplishment further supports the Authority's ongoing efforts to enhance spending efficiency and improve service quality in support of Qatar's infrastructure development.
