Qatar’s Ministry of Social Development and Family has launched an initiative aimed at strengthening ethical values within Qatari families and promoting value-based upbringing.The initiative, coinciding with the celebration of World Children’s Day, was unveiled by Sustainable Development Goals Ambassador Layan al-Hajri. His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie inaugurated Monday the student project exhibition held as part of the fourth edition of Sustainable Development Day organised by Lusail University. The Dean of the College of Education and Arts pointed out that the participating projects are subject to academic evaluation within the coursework, and a specialised judging committee evaluates them and selects three winning projects in recognition of outstanding student efforts. He stressed that the issue of sustainability is no longer a luxury as was previously thought, noting that UN reports show that many of the Sustainable Development Goals need more efforts to be achieved, hence the importance of instilling this awareness among students from an early stage. Dr Nasser explained that the Sustainable Development Day event coincides with Qatar Sustainability Week, noting the university’s keenness to participate annually in this national event in line with its role in spreading and promoting a culture of sustainability among young people. Sustainable Development Day also included a number of awareness activities, student presentations and environmental competitions, in addition to awarding the best projects and outstanding presentations, in a step that reflects the university’s keenness to promote the spirit of creativity and encourage initiatives that support awareness and consolidate the values ​​of community participation.

Qatar Sunday kicked off the 2025/26 cruise season at the Old Doha Port, welcoming MSC Euribia, operated by MSC Cruises, carrying 5,000 passengers and a crew of 1,676 members. The MIE–SPPU Institute of Higher Education, the offshore campus of Savitribai Phule Pune University in Doha, has announced the launch of Qatar’s first accredited university programme on Sustainable Food Systems.It is supported by Qatar Sustainability Week (an Earthna initiative), the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Sustainability led by Dr Cory Flynn, and Enbat Group, a statement said.The programme is led by Ghanim al-Sulaiti, a Qatari entrepreneur, sustainability advocate, and founder of Enbat Group.“This journey began with building businesses focused on healthy, sustainable food. But I realised that true change starts with education. This programme is about preparing students to be part of the solution — combining science, culture, and identity to design a more sustainable future,” al-Sulaiti said.The accredited curriculum covers: the scientific foundations of sustainable diets and their impact on chronic disease and public health; the environmental footprint of food production (water, land, emissions); the role of heritage, religion, and Gulf traditions as sources of sustainable wisdom; hands-on training in composting and zero-waste menus; and case studies with local and global relevance.The course goes beyond theory, giving students practical skills such as: creating recipes using local ingredients, reducing food waste in kitchens, designing solutions to cut the food sector’s carbon footprint, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.Dr Flynn, who teaches a sustainable food systems course at the University of Pittsburgh, lauded the Qatari initiative to launch a similar course 'on the other side of the world'.Earthna's head of partnerships and outreach Shireen Obeidat said the programme represents a powerful step forward. The Ministry of Municipality and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) today signed a strategic partnership agreement to enhance the role of the 'LifeHub' project, the pioneering project in Msheireb Downtown Doha. The project represents a unique interactive educational center that embodies Qatar's national vision of building a more sustainable future based on innovation and human progress. The partnership agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Municipality by Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, and on behalf of Weill Cornell Medicine—Qatar by Dean of the College Dr. Javaid Sheikh, in the presence of a number of senior officials from both sides. On this occasion, Al Karani affirmed that the Ministry of Municipality is adopting the latest technologies and innovations to develop smart solutions to contemporary challenges, and is continuing to develop its infrastructure and services to provide a sustainable environment that supports human health in the country.
