Mauricio Pochettino has signed a contract extension to remain the head coach of the United States national team until the 2030 World Cup, US Soccer announced Monday.The 54-year-old took over in 2024 and led the USA to the last 16 at the recent World Cup, which they co-hosted with Canada and Mexico."It has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the men's national team program even stronger," said Argentinian Pochettino, whose coaching staff have also agreed new contracts."The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here..."We want to try to have a lasting impact on the sport in the country that has welcomed us so warmly and for that impact to extend beyond results on the field."The Americans won three matches at a World Cup for the first time before being knocked out by Belgium, following a huge controversy over FIFA's decision to suspended striker Folarin Balogun's ban for a red card.Former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino was named coach two years ago, after previous boss Gregg Berhalter left following a group-stage exit from the 2024 Copa America which the USA hosted.Pochettino helped turn things around and led the team to the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup final, which they lost 2-1 to Mexico.He had been linked with a return to European club football, but will instead stay with the US until the next World Cup, slated to be largely held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco."Mauricio has built a culture where players trust the group, trust the process and trust each other," said US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone."We saw the impact of that belief in the way the team grew, competed and performed on the world's biggest stage."The USA have not reached the quarter-finals of a men's World Cup since 2002, and hopes were high a partisan home crowd could carry them to at least that stage.But after the Balogun affair, a fired-up Belgium quashed those hopes last month with a crushing 4-1 victory.

Japanese soccer icon Kazuyoshi Miura scored his first competitive goal in nearly four years on Saturday, finding the net at the age of 59 as Fukushima United thrashed Iwaki Furukawa 7-0 to advance in the Emperor's Cup.Miura, affectionately known as "King Kazu", struck in the 52nd minute to put Fukushima 5-0 ahead, capping a trademark run into the box by meeting a teammate's cutback with a first-time finish at 59 years and 149 days.The goal sparked celebrations among teammates on the pitch and the bench before the veteran forward was substituted three minutes later.It was Miura's first competitive goal since November 2022, when he scored for Suzuka PG, now Atletico Suzuka, in a Japan Football League defeat by FC Osaka.The former Japan international is preparing for a remarkable 42nd season as a professional after extending his loan spell with third-tier Fukushima United until June 2027.Miura joined the club from Yokohama FC in December and will remain with Fukushima after making six appearances during a shortened 2026 campaign.With Japan's professional leagues set to switch from a spring-to-autumn schedule to an autumn-to-spring calendar, Miura will enter his 60s still playing professionally, adding another chapter to one of soccer's most enduring careers.   

Ibrahim Mohd Al-Khulaifi Trdg Co (Imalco) recently held its 12th Annual Sports Day in Doha. The event successfully gathered the entire staff of Imalco grouped into four teams and engaged in various sporting activities, such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and some athletics activities.Imalco CEO Aboo Backer Bavu stated that sports is part of the company’s organisational culture, which helps keep the staff physically fit with a healthy psychological wellbeing. The event concluded with the gifting ceremony for all the winners and the titling of the best team of the year, followed by a group lunch. Around 200 employees participated in the event. 

French football giants and European champions Paris Saint-Germain picked up seven awards at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai Globe Soccer Awards held at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai, UAE, Sunday. The awards included PSG Best Club; Best Player Ousmane Dembele, Best Midfielder Vitinha, Emerging Player Désiré Doué, Best Coach Luis Enrique, Best President Nasser al-Khelaïfi, and Best Sporting Director Luis Campos.(@PSG_English)
