'The spirit of giving and solidarity is dominant during Ramadan in Qatar'

The holy month of Ramadan in Qatar has a distinctive atmosphere that celebrates modernity and tradition simultaneously while promoting original Qatari heritage, Libya’s ambassador to Qatar Mohamed Mustafa al-Sagheer al-Lafi has said.He noted that as Ramadan approaches each year, it brings with it a deep sense of nostalgia for Libyans, as it is a month steeped in memory and has long cherished social traditions, in addition to various local dishes such as bazeen, Arabic soup, couscous, and mbakbaka, which are considered an integral part of the Ramadan table.He said that for Libyans, Ramadan is an excellent opportunity for family gatherings around the Iftar table.Mosques are filled with worshippers attending Taraweeh prayers, al-Lafi added, while the exchange of friendly greetings among relatives and neighbours promotes a spirit of kindness and cohesion.The envoy said that this month has become a powerful reminder of the importance of social support and solidarity, as communities quietly and generously come together to support the needy and share in the blessing of the month.He noted that in Qatar, in particular, the spirit of giving and charity is dominant across many initiatives adopted by the country and its people, such as free Iftar tents, the extensive work of charitable organisations, and a dominant atmosphere of fraternity and mutual respect.Al-Lafi said that the various charitable initiatives within Qatar and abroad reflect deeply rooted values of generosity and giving among the Qatari society.He said that Qatar is a country that celebrates cultural diversity, and Ramadan further highlights Qatar’s commitment to coexistence and tolerance, as people from different nationalities and backgrounds share in community and charitable activities, reinforcing harmony and mutual understanding.The envoy added that Qatar has continued to play a prominent humanitarian role through organisations such as Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent Society, with global efforts intensified during Ramadan through relief initiatives and aid distribution across numerous countries.
