Police Academy honours graduates His Excellency the Minister of Interior, Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani attended Thursday the graduation of the second cohort of the Master of Law and Master of Security Studies programmes at the Police Academy’s College of Graduate Studies. The ceremony also celebrated graduates of the 11th mandatory qualifying course for civilian university graduates at the Police College and the fourth such course for female graduates at the Women’s Police Institute. Sheikh Khalifa honoured the graduates and launched the Police Academy’s new website as part of efforts to enhance its digital services. He later attended the graduation of the sixth group taking part in the seventh Police of Tomorrow programme (Summer 2026), in the presence of senior officials, officers and the graduates’ families.

His Excellency Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani held talks Monday with Pakistan’s Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Raza Naqvi in Doha. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral co-operation in the security sector and strengthening ties between the two countries. The two sides also reviewed a number of issues of mutual interest. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani met Saturday with Egypt's Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty, who was visiting Doha.They discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, as well as the latest regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts and joint co-ordination to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the region.The prime minister stressed the need for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what was agreed upon within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, to maintain regional security, preserve the gains achieved, and enhance regional stability.He reiterated Qatar's full support for all efforts aimed at defusing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves lasting peace in the region.  

The Attorneys' Admission Committee met Tuesday under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi.During the meeting, three new lawyers took the legal oath after completing their training period.The committee reviewed applications from several professionals with equivalent experience seeking registration in the roll of practicing lawyers, as well as applications to register lawyers in the trainee lawyers' roll.It also looked into requests from three candidates to complete their training period and qualify to practice law, approved the transfer of two lawyers from the non-practicing roll to the practicing roll, and reviewed applications to transfer lawyers to the roll of practicing lawyers eligible to appear before the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation.The committee also discussed several regulatory matters related to the legal profession, including reports submitted by its subcommittees and a proposed memorandum on administering the legal oath to non-Qatari lawyers. 

His Excellency Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy, presided over the first 2026 meeting of the Academy's Supreme Council.Held at the Ministry of Interior headquarters, the meeting was attended by Their Excellencies members of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy.During the meeting, the Council discussed a number of agenda items related to academic and training matters.It also approved the conferral of master's degrees on students who had fulfilled all requirements for the College of Graduate Studies' master's programs.Moreover, the Council reviewed several matters within the Academy's jurisdiction and adopted the appropriate decisions thereon, as part of efforts to develop the educational and training system, thereby strengthening the Police Academy's role in preparing qualified security personnel. 

Former Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham was one step away from becoming Britain's next prime minister on Friday after being appointed leader of the governing Labour Party.Following are the policies he has spoken about since returning to parliament in June, which offer an insight into how he could govern Britain to try to overcome a cost-of-living crisis, revive anaemic economic growth and win back voters. DECENTRALISATION OF POWERBurnham has promised to "bring about the biggest rebalancing of power our country has seen".His focus is on Whitehall, a part of London dotted with government departments where public officials help elected ministers devise and implement policy, which he said had become overly powerful to the detriment of Britain's regions."It is time for Whitehall to accept that growth cannot be ordered from the top down. Instead, it can only be nurtured from the bottom up," he said in a speech on June 29.While focusing initially on England, where 85% of the United Kingdom's population live, he has said that regional devolution should also be extended in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, nations where semi-autonomous assemblies already legislate on most domestic issues, but lack tax-raising and borrowing powers.He has promised to hand more powers over economic development, housing, transport, education and skills to the regions and to set up a "Number 10 North" in Manchester in northwestern England — a mirror of Number 10 Downing Street in London, the home and office of Britain's prime ministers.Number 10 North will drive a decentralisation of power and support the regions in reforming essential utilities, reindustrialisation and regeneration, he said, to oversee "good growth" in every postcode.Burnham has also promised to hand the regions greater public control of essential services such as water, housing, energy and transport. REINDUSTRIALISATIONBurnham has said he wants Britain to rebuild its industry, promising to support domestic manufacturing and production capability in critical sectors such as steel, defence, energy, food and farming.Defence is a particular target.He has promised to strengthen the armed forces, saying he wanted investment into defence to help reindustrialise struggling parts of Britain, and that the government should reduce its reliance on foreign suppliers. EDUCATION AND APPRENTICESHIPSBurnham has said he wants to see less of a focus on university education and a greater emphasis on technical and vocational qualifications, promising to build a system "based on parity between academic and technical".He has also urged businesses to offer more apprenticeships for younger people. HOUSINGBurnham has pledged his government will oversee "the biggest council house (social housing) building programme since the post-war period" after 1945. He has pledged to use vacant public land to reduce costs.He described it as adopting "a national Housing First philosophy, as has been pioneered so successfully in Finland".The Nordic country offers homeless people a home rather than temporary or transitional accommodation. It sees a stable home as a secure environment from which to tackle other issues. TAXBurnham has promised to stick to the Labour government's self-imposed fiscal rules, which require it to match day-to-day spending to revenue, and to the party's manifesto commitment not to increase taxes on working people.He has suggested some potential tax reforms, such as overhauling business rates to support pubs and high street businesses, and has expressed support for a land-value tax — an annual tax on the market rental value of land rather than on the buildings sitting on it. Such a tax could prompt the abolition of stamp duty, a tax on home sales, and possibly replace council tax, a tax paid by households for local services. SOCIAL CAREBurnham has said social care needs a major overhaul. FOREIGN POLICYBurnham has said less on foreign policy, but earned approval from some on the left of the Labour Party when he said the government should do more to put pressure on Israel.He has said he will maintain Britain's support for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia's war and has pledged to build closer ties with other European countries, especially on defence and security. 

HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has received a phone call from  Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, to discuss bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments.The conversation on Friday focused on cooperation between their countries and explored ways to strengthen relations, alongside efforts to support security and peace in the region.HE Sharif expressed his country's full support and solidarity with the State of Qatar amid the current regional developments, stressing the importance of restraint, dialogue and diplomacy to preserve recent gains in regional stability. The Pakistani prime minister also praised the State of Qatar's role in supporting peace efforts and said Islamabad looked forward to continuing coordination with Doha to promote peace, stability and prosperity across the region. The two leaders also discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts, including talks between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and underscored the need to continue efforts to reduce tensions and resolve disputes through peaceful means. HH the Amir and  the Pakistani Prime Minister reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination on regional security, including safeguarding maritime security and shipping lanes, and supporting conditions for a lasting and sustainable peace in the region.

His Excellency Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari met with Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cisco Chuck Robbins during his visit to Doha.The meeting reviewed cooperation relations along with prospects for strengthening and developing them, particularly in the fields of investment, finance, and the digital economy, in addition to a number of topics of mutual interest.

His Excellency Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie stressed that investing in young people's environmental awareness and equipping them with environmental knowledge is fundamental to building a generation capable of preserving the country's natural resources and supporting its environmental sustainability efforts.HE the Minister made the remarks while honoring students and participating entities in the third edition of the 2026 Summer Environmental Club, organized by the Ministry under the theme "Guardians of the Environment." The two-week program brought together 26 students aged 11 to 17 and was attended by ministry officials and representatives of participating organizations.His Excellency said the Summer Environmental Club reflects the Ministry's commitment to offering educational programs that combine theoretical learning with practical experience, enabling participants to gain firsthand insight into environmental work and the State's efforts to protect the environment and conserve biodiversity.He emphasized that environmental protection begins with knowledge and awareness before becoming a daily practice and a shared responsibility. The enthusiasm and engagement demonstrated by the students during workshops and field visits, he added, reflect growing environmental awareness among younger generations and their readiness to contribute to national initiatives.His Excellency affirmed the Ministry's commitment to engaging young people through awareness and training programs that introduce them to environmental challenges and the solutions used to address them, while encouraging them to develop ideas and initiatives that support environmental protection.HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie also expressed appreciation to the participating entities and Ministry departments for their contribution to the program, noting that their cooperation in organizing activities and field visits enriched the club's content and enhanced the students' learning experience.The two-week program featured a series of workshops and field visits covering environmental photography, recycling, environmental monitoring and inspection, marine biodiversity, the safe use of radiation, marine environmental protection, houbara bustard breeding, and hazardous waste tracking. The activities were designed to enhance participants' environmental awareness and provide them with practical experience in environmental conservation.
