Arthritis treatment options available in Doha

Many people think arthritis is simply an unavoidable part of aging. In reality, arthritis is a medical condition that can affect adults of various ages and significantly impact mobility, independence, and quality of life. For residents of Doha and across Qatar, arthritis is one of the leading causes of chronic joint pain, stiffness, and reduced physical activity. The encouraging news is that modern treatment options have evolved considerably, allowing many patients to manage symptoms effectively and maintain an active lifestyle for years. Understanding the available treatment approaches is the first step toward making informed decisions about your joint health.  Understanding Arthritis Arthritis is not a single disease but a group of conditions that cause inflammation, pain, and degeneration within the joints.Common forms include:OsteoarthritisRheumatoid arthritisPost-traumatic arthritisInflammatory arthritisThe knees, hips, shoulders, hands, and spine are among the most commonly affected areas.  Common SymptomsSymptoms may develop gradually and often include:Joint painMorning stiffnessSwellingReduced mobilityDifficulty walking or climbing stairsDecreased participation in daily activitiesMany patients initially dismiss these symptoms until they begin interfering with work, exercise, or sleep.  Non-Surgical Treatment Options Lifestyle and Activity Modifications Early-stage arthritis can often be managed by reducing stress on affected joints, maintaining a healthy weight, and staying physically active.Regular movement helps preserve joint function and may reduce stiffness.  Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Structured physiotherapy programs are frequently recommended to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and overall joint function.Functional rehabilitation focuses not only on pain reduction but also on helping patients maintain independence and long-term mobility.  MBST Therapy For some patients with osteoarthritis and degenerative joint conditions, MBST (Molecular Biophysical Stimulation Therapy) may be considered as part of a non-surgical treatment strategy. This therapy is designed to support cellular activity within cartilage, bone, and soft tissues without the need for injections or medication. MBST is typically used alongside a broader treatment plan that may include orthopedic assessment, physiotherapy, activity modification, and long-term joint health management. Suitability depends on the type and severity of arthritis, making specialist evaluation important before considering this treatment option. Advanced Treatment Approaches When symptoms persist despite conservative management, specialist evaluation becomes increasingly important. Accurate diagnosis often involves orthopedic assessment and advanced diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays or MRI scans, to determine the extent of joint damage and guide treatment decisions. For some patients, regenerative therapies, image-guided procedures, or specialized rehabilitation pathways may be considered as part of a broader management strategy.  When Is Surgery Considered? Joint replacement surgery is typically considered when arthritis causes severe pain, significant loss of function, and reduced quality of life despite non-surgical treatment. Modern orthopedic surgery, combined with comprehensive rehabilitation programs, has helped many patients return to everyday activities with greater comfort and confidence. Recovery planning remains a crucial component of successful long-term outcomes.  When Should Someone Seek Medical Evaluation? Anyone experiencing persistent joint pain, increasing stiffness, swelling, or difficulty performing daily activities should consider medical evaluation. Early diagnosis often provides more treatment options and may help slow the progression of joint-related problems.   About DOC Medical Center DOC Medical Center is a specialized healthcare institution in Qatar focused on orthopedics, spine care, sports medicine, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, neurology, neurosurgery, regenerative medicine, and surgical services. Through its Al Sadd, Lusail, and Izghawa branches, DOC provides patient-centered multidisciplinary care that supports patients from diagnosis through recovery. DOC Medical Center was recognized as the Best Medical Center in Qatar – Medicare Qatar Healthcare Awards 2025 and holds ACHSI EQUIP 7 International Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to clinical quality, patient safety, and evidence-based care. Don't accept joint pain as normal. Persistent joint pain should not be accepted as a normal part of everyday life. An early assessment can help identify the cause of symptoms and determine the most appropriate treatment pathway for maintaining mobility and independence.  Phone: +974 4475 3333Email: [email protected]://www.docmedc.com/

Shoulder Pain? When to seek specialist care in Qatar

Shoulder pain has a way of affecting almost every part of daily life. Simple tasks such as reaching for a shelf, lifting groceries, exercising, driving, or even sleeping comfortably can become surprisingly difficult. Many people assume shoulder pain will eventually disappear on its own. While minor strains often improve with rest, persistent pain may indicate an underlying condition that requires professional assessment. Knowing when to seek specialist care can help prevent long-term complications and support a faster return to normal activities.  Common Causes of Shoulder Pain The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, making it particularly vulnerable to injury and wear. Common causes include:Rotator cuff injuriesShoulder impingementTendinitisFrozen shoulderArthritisSports-related injuriesShoulder instability or dislocationIn Qatar, shoulder problems are frequently seen among athletes, gym-goers, manual workers, and office employees who spend long hours at a desk.  Signs You Should Not Ignore Pain That Persists for Several Weeks Temporary soreness is common after physical activity. However, pain lasting more than a few weeks may indicate structural damage or ongoing inflammation. Difficulty Lifting or Reaching Struggling to raise your arm overhead or perform routine activities may suggest tendon, muscle, or joint involvement. Night Pain That Disrupts Sleep Pain that worsens at night is often associated with rotator cuff disorders and other shoulder conditions that benefit from further evaluation. Weakness or Instability A sensation that the shoulder may slip, catch, or give way can indicate instability or previous injury requiring orthopedic assessment.  Why Accurate Diagnosis Matters Many shoulder conditions produce similar symptoms, which is why self-diagnosis can be misleading. A specialist evaluation often includes a physical examination and, when necessary, advanced diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI. Identifying the exact source of pain allows treatment to target the underlying problem rather than simply managing symptoms.  Treatment Options Not all shoulder pain requires surgery. Many patients improve through a combination of:Activity modificationPhysiotherapyTargeted strengthening exercisesPain management strategiesGuided rehabilitation programs For more complex cases, treatment may involve orthopedic consultation, image-guided interventions, or surgical procedures when conservative measures are no longer effective. A structured rehabilitation plan remains a key component of recovery, helping restore movement, strength, and long-term shoulder function.  When Should Someone Seek Medical Evaluation? Consider seeking specialist care if shoulder pain persists beyond a few weeks, limits daily activities, disrupts sleep, follows an injury, or is accompanied by weakness or loss of motion. Early evaluation can help identify the cause and expand available treatment options before the condition progresses.  About DOC Medical Center DOC Medical Center is a specialized healthcare institution in Qatar focused on orthopedics, sports medicine, spine care, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, neurology, neurosurgery, and surgical services. Shoulder pain is easier to treat when treated early. Shoulder pain is often easier to treat when addressed early. If symptoms are affecting your daily activities, exercise routine, or sleep, a professional evaluation can help determine the most appropriate next steps.  Phone: +974 4475 3333 --- Email: [email protected] --- https://www.docmedc.com/

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), along with other healthcare entities in the country, has launched a month-long campaign to raise awareness of the various types of blood cancer as August is observed as Blood Cancer Awareness Month.  The ministry has advised the public to watch for the disease’s symptoms while highlighting the treatment options available in the country.  Furthermore, other healthcare entities, such as the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), have highlighted the importance of raising awareness of the disease.  The HMC noted that the awareness campaign aims to educate the public about risk factors, warning signs, and the importance of prevention, and to encourage people to get tested and adopt a healthy lifestyle to reduce risk.  The MoPH has highlighted through a number of social media posts the importance of early diagnosis and necessary treatment for various types of blood cancer.  The ministry said that blood cancer is a group of cancers that affects how blood cells are produced and function and usually begins in the bone marrow or in the lymphatic system.  The main types of blood cancer are myeloma, leukaemia, and lymphoma, and the MoPH has said that people should take the early warning signs seriously.  Leukaemia is the most prevalent type of blood cancer in the country as per the national records at the ministry.  The most common symptoms of blood cancer are frequent or severe infections, unexplained weight loss and swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits or groin.  Other major symptoms include bone pain or back pain, especially in myeloma, persistent fatigue or weakness and easy bruising or bleeding. The MoPH highlighted that age, genetic factors and family history, previous chemotherapy or radiotherapy, exposure to high radiation, long-term exposure to certain chemicals, weakened immunity, viral infections or autoimmune disease are the major risk factors for blood cancer. Blood tests, bone marrow biopsy, image tests such as CT, PET and MRI, among others, and specialised laboratory tests to identify the exact type and genetic features are some of the ways used to diagnose blood cancer. Three key drivers for better health outcomes in case of blood cancer are: awareness of blood cancer symptoms, timely diagnosis, and access to specialised care.  To reduce the risk of the disease, the MoPH has suggested that the public maintain a healthy weight and stay physically active; follow a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables; avoid smoking and limit exposure to harmful chemicals and unnecessary radiation; and seek medical attention for persistent symptoms.  The ministry underlined that Qatar provides very advanced and specialised treatment for all types of blood cancer cases.Treatment options in the country vary according to the type and stage of the disease.  They include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and stem cell (bone marrow) transplant.A routine blood test may help detect cancers at an early stage when they are more treatable.  People can contact the HMC through Nesma’ak at 16060 and PHCC Hayyak at 107 for more information and assistance.

Hip replacement surgery in Qatar: what to expect (2026 Guide)

IntroductionPersistent hip pain can gradually transform everyday activities into challenges. Walking through a shopping mall, climbing stairs, getting out of a car, or even sleeping comfortably may become increasingly difficult. For many people in Qatar, hip replacement surgery becomes a consideration when pain and stiffness start limiting independence and quality of life.While the idea of joint replacement can feel intimidating, modern surgical techniques, advanced imaging, and structured rehabilitation programs have significantly improved patient outcomes. Understanding what to expect before, during, and after surgery can help patients make informed decisions with greater confidence.When Is Hip Replacement Surgery Needed?Hip replacement surgery is commonly recommended when the hip joint has sustained significant damage and conservative treatments no longer provide adequate relief.Common causes include:•    Osteoarthritis•    Rheumatoid arthritis•    Hip fractures•    Avascular necrosis•    Advanced joint degenerationMany patients first notice persistent groin pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, and difficulty performing routine activities.Diagnosis and Treatment PlanningNot every patient with hip pain requires surgery.Accurate diagnosis is essential and typically begins with a specialist orthopedic assessment, physical examination, and diagnostic imaging such as X-rays or MRI scans. These investigations help determine the extent of joint damage and whether non-surgical options remain appropriate.Treatment plans are increasingly individualized, taking into account age, activity level, overall health, and recovery goals.What Happens During Hip Replacement Surgery?During the procedure, damaged portions of the hip joint are replaced with artificial components designed to restore smooth movement and reduce pain.Modern surgical planning focuses on:•    Restoring joint alignment•    Improving stability•    Preserving function•    Supporting long-term mobilityAdvances in orthopedic surgery have made procedures more precise, allowing many patients to begin walking shortly after surgery under professional supervision.Recovery: The Most Important PhaseA common misconception is that surgery alone solves the problem.In reality, rehabilitation plays a critical role in recovery. Structured physiotherapy programs help restore strength, mobility, balance, and confidence while reducing the risk of complications.Recovery pathways often involve coordinated care between orthopedic specialists, rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, and pain management teams. This multidisciplinary approach helps patients progress safely toward daily activities and long-term movement goals.Most patients experience gradual improvement over several months, although recovery timelines vary. When Should Someone Seek Medical Evaluation?Anyone experiencing persistent hip pain, increasing stiffness, difficulty walking, or reduced mobility should consider medical evaluation. Early assessment can identify the underlying cause and help determine whether conservative treatment, rehabilitation, or surgical intervention is most appropriate.About DOC Medical CenterDOC Medical Center is a specialized healthcare institution in Qatar focused on orthopedics, spine care, sports medicine, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, neurology, neurosurgery, and surgical services. Through its Al Sadd, Lusail, and Izghawa branches, DOC provides patient-centered multidisciplinary care that supports individuals from diagnosis through recovery. DOC Medical Center was recognized as the Best Medical Center in Qatar – Medicare Qatar Healthcare Awards 2025 and holds ACHSI EQUIP 7 International Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to quality, safety, and clinical excellence.Does hip pain affect your mobility or independence?If hip pain is affecting your mobility or independence, seeking an early evaluation may help clarify your treatment options and recovery pathway before symptoms worsen.Phone: +974 4475 3333Email: [email protected]
