Qatar’s focus on mathematics and logical thinking can help prepare students for scientific and technology-driven careers of the future, educator and parent Fahad Mohammed al-Meer said following the achievement of Qatari students at an international competition in Milan. In an statement to Gulf Times, al-Meer said the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE)’s focus on mathematics and logic reflects an understanding of the importance of these fields as foundations for developing students’ logical-thinking skills. “Strengthening these skills from middle school through Grade 12 opens broader horizons for students in university education and future scientific careers,” he said. Al-Meer stressed that the younger generation will play a central role in driving Qatar’s digital transformation, mastering artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and keeping pace with the country’s rapid technological development. Drawing on his own experience, he emphasised the importance of guiding students towards scientific fields and specialisations that can help develop the digital leaders Qatar will need in 2030 and beyond. His comments followed the achievement of Qatari students at the 2026 International Mathematics and Logic Games Championships in Milan, where they earned eight honorary certificates, highlighting their ability to compete successfully on the global scientific stage. “In the next competition, we will see more Qatari students willing to hone their mathematics skills and receive training through logical-thinking workshops,” al-Meer said. He described the achievement as “an eye-opener for parents” and urged them to help guide their children towards educational paths and future specialisations that will support Qatar’s digital transformation and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The students’ achievement followed a structured preparation programme conducted by a team of local and international coaches under the supervision and follow-up of mathematics specialists within the MoEHE’s Educational Affairs Sector. The championships brought together hundreds of young mathematics enthusiasts from around the world at Milan’s Bocconi University on July 25-26. The 2026 event marked the 40th international edition of the competition and the 33rd edition organised in Italy by Bocconi University, which has co-ordinated the Italian edition since 1994. This year’s championship attracted 595 competitors representing 23 countries, selected from a much larger international pool. During the competition, students tackled mathematical and logical challenges designed to test their reasoning, creativity and ability to develop innovative solutions. The competition has grown significantly since its launch. In Italy alone, its first edition attracted just over 400 participants, while registrations for the 2026 edition exceeded 35,000. The latest achievement further strengthens Qatar’s presence in global academic and scientific forums, while highlighting the potential of its young talents and the effectiveness of programmes designed to transform mathematical ability, logical thinking and creativity into internationally recognised excellence. 

DPS–Modern Indian School has once again demonstrated its mathematical excellence by securing a place among the top four finalists in the prestigious Pi Day Mathematics Competition 2026 (Preliminary Round), marking the school’s eighth consecutive year of outstanding performance in this national-level competition.Organised by Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, the Pi Day Mathematics Competition was introduced in 2016 aimed at inspiring high school students to deepen their mathematical understanding and engage in healthy academic competition.The 2026 preliminary round, held on February 14 witnessed participation from nearly 100 schools across Qatar, making the achievement even more commendable. Displaying exceptional analytical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, the students of DPS–Modern Indian School delivered an impressive performance to secure their place in the final round. The grand finale is scheduled to be held on March 14.Members of the finalist team are: Anish Sambara, Abhinand Sakalabhaktula, Praveen Manikandan, and Ritesh Vardhan Reddy, with Umasankar Sambara as their mentor. This remarkable achievement reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its continuous efforts to nurture analytical thinking and competitive spirit among students. The consistent success of DPS–Modern Indian School in this esteemed competition reaffirms its position as a leading institution in fostering mathematical talent at both national and international levels.
