The US announced that Israel and Lebanon had reached a ceasefire agreement, following the conclusion of the second and final day of the fourth round of negotiations between the two sides in Washington. The US State Department said in a statement that the two sides, at the direction of the US, agreed to expedite the establishment of pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces would have exclusive control over the territory, excluding all non-governmental parties. The ceasefire is conditional on a complete cessation of fire by Hezbollah and the evacuation of all its operatives from the area south of the Litani river, the State Department said, pointing out that steps aimed at strengthening the Lebanese army’s control will pave the way towards a comprehensive agreement for security and stability between Lebanon and Israel. It explained that the two delegations discussed a security framework based on previous talks held at the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) on May 29, which includes dismantling non-governmental armed groups and preventing their return to their areas of deployment. The US State Department affirmed that both sides committed to continuing direct negotiations to resolve outstanding issues and reach a comprehensive agreement, noting their agreement to resume talks on June 22. The US also renewed its commitment to supporting the Lebanese army and developing its capabilities to enable it to extend state sovereignty over all its territory, affirming its continued efforts to facilitate communication between Lebanon and Israel during the transitional phase. Lebanon stressed during the negotiations the need for an immediate and complete cessation of hostilities and respect for international borders and state sovereignty, while Israel affirmed its commitment to direct negotiations under American auspices to address outstanding security issues, the department said.

A man who last year tried to enter Israel's London embassy armed with two knives and carrying a "martyrdom note" was yesterday convicted in ‌a London court of preparing an act of ​terrorism.Abdullah Albadri, 34, a ‌failed asylum seeker from Kuwait, attempted to breach ‌the embassy's ⁠perimeter in ‌April 2025 because he wanted to ‌send a message about "the killing of children", prosecutors said at ⁠his trial this month.Albadri denied charges of preparing an act of terrorism and possession of two bladed articles, telling police he had the knives because he was homeless, but a jury found him guilty yesterday.The verdicts came two days after two Jewish men were stabbed in ​north London in what police described as a suspected terrorist incident, adding to heightened fears within Britain's Jewish community.Last month, a pro-Iranian group ‌claimed online that it targeted ⁠the embassy ​with drones carrying "dangerous substances". Police later said they found ​no hazardous substances.Albadri was arrested by two armed officers as he tried to scale the fence outside the embassy in west London last April. Prosecutors said he later told police he wanted to send a message about stopping the war, a reference to the Israeli-Hamas conflict in Gaza."The prosecution say that Mr Albadri's intention was to use or threaten serious violence against the Israeli government, ‌to exact revenge for its ‌alleged murder of children," ⁠Catherine Pattison told jurors at the Old Bailey.Pattison said Albadri ⁠had arrived in ⁠Britain via a small boat on two occasions and most recently entered the country in April last year, when he applied for asylum, claiming he faced risks in Kuwait as a human rights activist.However, exchanges on his phone showed his asylum ​claim was rejected later that month, after which his intention began to shift to "far more sinister matters" and he started searching for the location of the Israeli embassy, Pattison said.Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said the Israeli embassy has faced a number of security alerts but police "continuously review and strengthen protective security plans to ensure the site ‌and the ​wider community is kept as safe as possible". 

The Israeli occupation continued its attacks on southern Lebanon on Tuesday, violating the ceasefire that began on April 16.The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes launched three airstrikes on the town of Zawtar Al-Sharqiyah in the Nabatieh district. Meanwhile, a number of people remain missing following an airstrike on the town of Haris in the Bint Jbeil district, southern Lebanon.In a related development, Israeli warplanes also attacked the town of Jabal Al-Batoum in the Tyre district, while occupation forces fired heavy machine guns in Bint Jbeil.On another note, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced today that four people were killed and 51, including three children, were injured in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon Monday night.By continuing its strikes on southern Lebanon, the Israeli entity is violating the 10-day ceasefire that began on April 16 and was later extended for three weeks last Friday.
