The Traffic Week 2026 kicked off yesterday through a traffic awareness exhibition organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Directorate of Traffic, at Place Vendome Mall, with the participation of relevant entities. The event aims to enhance road safety and promote a culture of safe road use. The exhibition was inaugurated by Director General of Traffic Brigadier Jabr Ali al-Kubaisi, in the presence of Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Programmes Department at the Ministry of Public Health Sheikh Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al-Thani, along with several directors, officers from the MoI, and representatives of participating entities. The exhibition brings together the 38th Unified GCC Traffic Week under the theme “I Cross Safely”, in addition to World Traffic Day and Arab Traffic Week under the theme “Slow Down... We Are Waiting for You”. The events will continue until Friday and include awareness and interactive activities to promote understanding of traffic laws and road etiquette. Brigadier Jabr Ali al-Kubaisi emphasised that the alignment of these three occasions strengthens awareness efforts and supports initiatives to reduce accidents and protect lives. He noted that the development of traffic services aligns with the MoI’s strategic goal of enhancing service quality. Traffic services available through the “Metrash” application have reached 85 services, with more than 552,000 transactions completed in 2025, reflecting the expansion and efficiency of digital services. The Director General of Traffic also voiced his appreciation to the participating entities for their co-operation and role in supporting awareness efforts, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility that begins with compliance with the law, and that respecting the road is a form of respecting human life. 

His Excellency Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani attended the closing of the 2026 Military Obstacle Championship held at the obstacle field in the training village.The championship aims to test participants' endurance, assess response speed, and strengthen teamwork while fostering positive competition.At the conclusion of the event, he honoured the Special Unit "Lifdawiya" team, winners of the championship banner. 

His Excellency the Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani received several messages and cables from Their Highnesses and Excellencies, ministers of Interior and security officials from fraternal and friendly countries, regarding the current situation in the region.In their messages, they emphasized the importance of enhancing co-ordination between countries to overcome the security challenges facing the region. The messages were received from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Bahrain Gen Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifa, Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif al-Saud, Minister of Interior of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud al-Sabah, and Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.HE Sheikh Khalifa also received messages and cables from Minister of Interior of the Republic of Turkiye Mustafa Ciftci, Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Spain Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gomez, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs of Republic of Singapore K Shanmugam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Romania Marian-Catalin Predoiu, Commander of the Gendarmerie General Command of the Republic of Turkiye Gen Ali Cardakci, and Director General of the National Gendarmerie of the French Republic Gen. Hubert Bonneau.For his part, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani expressed his profound thanks and appreciation to Their Highnesses, Excellencies, and senior officials for their supportive stances, which reflect the depth of the relations that bind the State of Qatar with its fraternal and international partners. He also commended their commitment to enhancing security and stability in the region. 

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that the General Directorate of Passports' Search and Follow-up Department enabled a service to pay financial claims electronically via the MoI's website and the Metrash App.In a post on its X account, the Ministry said Saturday that the service allows users to pay fees and fines, as well as travel ticket costs with ease.It added that this can be done by going onto the "Security" window, clicking on "Financial Claims", choosing between the "Personal" and "Establishment" options, selecting the due payment (fee, fine, ticket), clicking on "Records", and paying the required amount directly.In a separate post, the MoI indicated the requirements and conditions for obtaining a driving licence in accordance with the procedures approved by the General Directorate of Traffic.The ministry pointed out that the basic requirements include: Proof of Identity, Personal Photo, passing the Medical Examination, and presenting a valid Residence Permit for residents.A minimum age of 18 years old is required to obtain a light vehicle driving license and a minimum age of 21 years old to obtain other types of vehicle driving license, it added.The ministry highlighted the need to enroll in an accredited driving school and pass both the theoretical and practical tests.Upon passing the tests, the driving license can be printed via Metrash, the MoI website, and via Traffic Offices at Driving schools, the MoI said. 

The Ministry of Interior has warned against playing or circulating audio or video clips that mimic the National Emergency Alert System, including using such tones as mobile ringtones in public or private settings, citing risks of causing panic and disturbing public order.In a statement posted on its official account on X, the ministry stressed the importance of public responsibility and adherence to regulations, noting that misuse of emergency alert tones constitutes a legal offense subject to accountability. Authorities also urged the public to report violations by calling 999.  

The State of Qatar participated in the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, held Wednesday via videoconference.His Excellency Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani led the State of Qatar's delegation participating in the session.During the meeting, HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani affirmed that the convening of this session comes amid the complex security conditions witnessed by the State of Qatar and countries in the region as a result of the ongoing war and the damages - both human and material - caused by the Iranian aggression against the affected Arab states. This has doubled the responsibilities placed on security agencies, which have exerted additional efforts to safeguard public security and confront security threats, carrying out their duties with competence and efficiency.His Excellency added that the current phase, with its complexities and overlapping interests and regional and international influences, necessitates that Arab countries intensify efforts to develop joint security cooperation frameworks, strengthen channels for exchanging information and expertise, and activate training and capacity-building initiatives in line with the nature of contemporary threats. This is in addition to enhancing the highest levels of security coordination and unifying efforts to preserve the security of our countries and protect the achievements of their peoples..His Excellency affirmed the State of Qatar's commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening joint Arab action.Their Excellencies, and distinguished officials also discussed during the meeting various security issues and challenges facing Arab countries, in addition to reviewing the recommendations issued by previous conferences and meetings within the framework of the General Secretariat, the outcomes of joint meetings with Arab and international bodies, and ways to enhance security cooperation and coordination among Arab security agencies. 

Qatar’s agility in responding to global challenges has enabled the country to consistently play an outsized role in global affairs, a top official of LuLu Group has said.Dr Mohamed Althaf, LuLu Group Global director, noted that Qatar’s ability to adapt quickly to different situations has allowed it to maintain continuity and stability even during periods of uncertainty.According to Dr Althaf, Qatar’s resilience was most visible during the Covid-19 pandemic, when supply chains worldwide were disrupted. Despite global shortages, Qatar ensured uninterrupted access to essentials, he pointed out.He recalled: “During Covid-19, the challenge was last-mile delivery and staffing. That problem does not exist now. Stores are full, and as I often say, Qatar may be a small country, but it has a big heart.”“Everyone here — residents and citizens alike — will be treated well without discrimination. We have historical examples to draw from. During Covid-19, everyone was cared for, and I am confident Qatar is capable of protecting all its people again,” he said.Two weeks into the US-Israel-Iran war, Dr Althaf reiterated the Qatari government’s reassurance to its citizens and residents that food supplies and essential goods in the country are well stocked.Speaking to Qatar TV on Friday, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), announced that “Qatar has clear, applicable strategies in the field of food security, as the strategic food supply stock has already been increased to meet the country's needs for 18 months, up from nine months previously.”The minister emphasised that the country did not need to use this stock, as long as there were open supply channels and routes that ensured an uninterrupted food supply by both land and air.Qatar’s strategic water supply is also secure and sufficient for over four months of consumption, the minister confirmed, adding that the relevant authorities are actively working to increase the volume of this supply, ensuring a continuous flow.Dr Althaf also underscored Qatar’s investments in infrastructure, which have reinforced its ability to respond quickly to challenges. The country has built robust logistics networks, storage facilities, and digital systems that support both resilience and growth. These investments, he said, ensure that Qatar remains attractive to entrepreneurs and investors seeking a reliable hub in the region.He pointed out that Qatar’s proactive stance has consistently enabled it to benefit from shifting global dynamics. The combination of agility, responsiveness, and strategic investment has strengthened its reputation as a country capable of adapting to change while maintaining stability, Dr Althaf stressed. 

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), in a series of social media posts, has highlighted the co-operation of family members and their adherence to instructions issued by the relevant authorities to protect everyone and to face emergencies.An MoI statement said: "The co-operation of family members and their adherence to the directives issued by the relevant authorities help protect everyone and enhance the community’s ability to address the emerging developments with awareness and responsibility."The statement further noted: “During emergencies, the older family members and those with medical conditions require greater care and attention at home. Make sure to check on them regularly.”Meanwhile, MoI has once again emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic rules and public safety measures to protect lives and property and to reinforce the principle of collective responsibility and compliance with safety guidelines.The statement said: “Adhering to traffic regulations and general safety is a civilised behaviour that protects lives and property. It reflects awareness of the principle of social responsibility and the co-operation of the members of society in following safety instructions.”Furthermore, the ministry cautioned motorists that making loud noise from vehicles violates traffic law and disturbs others. “Your commitment to traffic rules and regulations reflects your awareness and helps maintain safety.”It stated that motorists must comply with the instructions and regulations and refrain from making loud noises from vehicles to maintain public peace.The ministry also stressed the importance of adhering to workplace safety guidelines and taking national alerts and warning messages seriously.The statement said that it is important for everyone to adhere to all instructions at their workplace and follow the directions of the workplace security and safety team to enhance everyone's safety, which also reflects institutional discipline in the work environment.MoI and other government entities have been regularly issuing directives and awareness messages to ensure public safety and security since the outbreak of regional tensions. They have time and again advised the public to rely only on official communication channels for the right information. 

The Ministry of Interior has issued safety guidelines for employees at workplaces, outlining a set of instructions and procedures to be followed when responding to precautionary security alerts. This initiative is part of the Ministry's commitment to enhancing public safety and raising awareness of preventive measures within the workplace.The ministry clarified that employees must take national alerts or warnings issued through official channels seriously and immediately comply with their instructions. They should also follow updates only through official sources and refrain from spreading rumours or republishing unreliable information.The ministry emphasised the necessity of adhering to the directives of the relevant authorities and security and safety teams at the workplace, avoiding any individual interpretations.Regarding safe conduct within buildings, the ministry urged employees to remain inside the building upon the issuance of any precautionary alert, maintain calm, and avoid causing alarm. Employees should also avoid going outside or to open areas and stay away from windows, glass facades, and open surfaces.The ministry stressed the importance of staying away from energy sources and flammable materials, and minimising unnecessary movement between floors or buildings.Regarding evacuation of facilities, the ministry recommended familiarising oneself with emergency exits, evacuation routes, and designated assembly points within the workplace. It also advised against using elevators when an evacuation alert or instruction is given, recommending instead the use of stairs and emergency exits.The ministry emphasised the need to avoid pushing or crowding while moving to safe areas within the building and to keep corridors and emergency exits clear of obstructions to ensure rapid evacuation when necessary.The guidelines also included instructions to follow in the event of an explosion or sudden incident. The ministry explained that if a person is outside the building when an explosion occurs, they should immediately go to the nearest safe area within the building and remain there after hearing the explosion or alert until instructions are issued by the relevant authorities that the danger has passed.Regarding the handling of suspicious objects and hazards, the Ministry emphasised the necessity of immediately reporting any suspicious object or unusual observation through the designated channels within the organisation or by contacting the relevant authorities. It stressed the prohibition of touching or approaching any metallic object, shrapnel fragments, or unidentified objects.The ministry also emphasised the importance of organisational discipline within the workplace, stressing the need to refrain from photographing incidents, sites, or security procedures and posting them on social media. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of knowing emergency numbers and how to contact designated security and safety supervisors within the organisation, as well as the necessity of fully cooperating with security and safety officials and adhering to their instructions under all circumstances.The ministry indicated that the security and safety departments in governmental, semi-governmental, and private entities are responsible for disseminating these guidelines to employees and monitoring their implementation. They are also tasked with ensuring the readiness of emergency exits, evacuation routes, assembly points, and response mechanisms for precautionary alerts.The ministry confirmed that it will take the necessary legal measures against anyone who violates these guidelines, in accordance with applicable regulations. It also encouraged the public to contact them with any inquiries or comments regarding safety guidelines via the numbers: 2355585 and 2355633.  

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani visited Thursday the National Command Center of the Ministry of Interior.At the outset of the visit, His Highness listened to a briefing on the crisis and emergency management system, and the mechanisms for immediate action in response to various developments, including rapid response plans for events and raising the levels of preparedness.**media[423421]**His Highness the Amir was also briefed on the monitoring, surveillance, and follow-up systems, and the mechanisms for supporting decision-making in exceptional circumstances, which enhances overall national readiness, ensures the continuity of vital services, and maintains security and stability in the country.**media[423419]**HH the Amir commended the efforts made by the MoI members, appreciating their constant readiness to perform the national duty of preserving the security and safety of the nation. 

The Ministry of Interior has issued a series of official statements reassuring the public that security and emergency teams have the situation fully under control, operating around the clock at the highest levels of readiness in line with pre-approved emergency protocols.Authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and to venture outside only when absolutely necessary. People are also advised to keep away from windows and open or exposed areas as a precautionary measure during this period.The ministry stressed that all updates and information should be sourced exclusively from official channels, warning the public against spreading unverified claims or rumours.It explained that the activation of its early warning and alert systems is driven by precise on-the-ground assessments, and that additional precautionary steps may be taken as the situation develops.Alongside these safety directives, authorities issued a firm warning against gathering at incident sites or recording and sharing footage related to ongoing developments in the field.Members of the public were further urged to stay clear of reporting areas and active emergency response teams in the field, and to give way to ambulances and patrol vehicles so they can reach their destinations without delay.The ministry confirmed that all relevant security agencies are conducting continuous field operations through an integrated system, in close coordination with every concerned authority, maintaining the highest levels of readiness and responsiveness throughout.Qatar's national response system, the ministry reiterated, remains fully operational with all services running without interruption to safeguard the security and well-being of all people in the country. 

The Ministry of Interior has extended all categories of entry visas that have expired or are nearing expiration for a period of one month, subject to further extension in line with developments, effective Saturday, February 28, 2026.In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry confirmed that the extension will be processed automatically through the approved electronic systems, with exemption from fees, and without the need to visit the relevant departments or submit additional applications.Regarding entry visas of all types that incurred violations prior to February 28, the Ministry clarified that the concerned individuals must first settle the prescribed reconciliation fine for the period of overstay. Thereafter, the extension and fee exemption shall apply to them effective from the aforementioned date.The ministry continues to monitor developments and take necessary measures as needed to ensure the stability of the legal status of residents and visitors.
