 A delegation of the Qatari Al Gannas Society visited the International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition. The 10-day event was organised by the National Falcon Center at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center and concluded yesterday.  Led by Chairman of the Al Gannas Board of Directors, Ali bin Khatam al-Mahshadi, the delegation toured the exhibition’s sections and events, which showcased falcon auctions and the Melwah lure racing competition, featuring 12 rounds and total prize money of SAR 723,000.  Al-Mahshadi stressed the event’s significance in preserving falconry heritage, which represents a shared legacy between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation and the exchange of expertise in falconry and the organisation of international exhibitions. 

Under the patronage of Katara Cultural Village general manager Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, the public draw placed 22 teams in four groups for the 16th Al-Galayel Traditional Hunting Championship.The championship will run from January 11 to February 2, 2027.Six additional teams were ranked on a reserve list to replace any participant that withdraws before the competition begins.Ali Hamad al-Marri, head of the Al-Galayel Technical Committee, said defending champion Al-Tahadi was placed directly in Group 1.The remaining participants were drawn into the four groups, and a separate draw established the reserve teams’ order.Group 1 comprises Al-Tahadi, Haloul, Dukhan and Al-Nakhash; Group 2 comprises Al-Tufan, Al-Rayyan, Al-Jaryan and Suhail; Group 3 comprises Al-Dhaayen, Shaman, Dharb and Lahseen; and Group 4 comprises Al-Zour, Lajla'a, Labsir and Al-Adaid.The reserve teams, in order, are Al-Bayareq, Al-Bid'a, Al-Sailiya, La'sailah, Al-Salimi and Al-Shaqab.Al-Marri said they would be called up in that sequence if a participant withdrew, noting that unforeseen circumstances could arise during the four-to-five-month interval between the draw and the tournament.He said the registration of 22 teams demonstrated the championship’s strong appeal among traditional hunting competitors as it enters its 16th year.Al-Marri said the turnout showed that teams remained eager to participate in an event closely associated with Qatar’s cultural identity.Organisers also expect favourable weather throughout the competition.One of Qatar’s leading heritage competitions, Al-Galayel tests traditional hunting, desert navigation, endurance, discipline and knowledge of the local environment.

The second day of the 10th edition of the Katara International Hunting and Falconry Exhibition, S’hail 2026, drew a large turnout of citizens, residents and visitors to Qatar, with strong activity at stands featuring weapons, hunting and falconry equipment and outdoor gear. Visitors explored and purchased products for hunting, falconry and outdoor trips, highlighting S’hail’s growing status as an annual gathering for enthusiasts and a showcase for Qatar’s traditional heritage. The day also featured visits by ambassadors, senior officials and dignitaries, who toured exhibition stands and viewed products and equipment presented by participating companies and institutions.**media[489614]**Mohamed bin Abdul Latif al-Misnad, vice chairman of the Organising Committee of S’hail 2026, said the 10th edition represented a landmark in the exhibition’s journey and a decade of heritage, passion and achievement. S’hail has established itself as one of the world’s leading specialised exhibitions for hunting, falconry and outdoor pursuits, he said, combining heritage with modern technology and innovation. “Each edition presents a wide range of products, equipment, innovations and modern technologies”, covering falconry, hunting, camping, vehicles and caravans, al-Misnad said. The exhibition also creates opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and partnerships among companies and specialists. Continued growth in participation, international presence, and strong public turnout demonstrate the status S’hail has achieved over the past decade, he said, adding that the 10th edition marks a new phase aimed at attracting more global products and innovations. Qatari caravan manufacturers have a strong presence at S’hail 2026, showcasing products that combine comfort, quality and modern technology for desert and outdoor enthusiasts. Abdullah Yousuf al-Sada, general manager of Light Factory, said the company was presenting a distinctive Qatari product. Its solar-powered caravans are designed for mobility and ease of use, incorporating a bedroom, bathroom, majlis and fully equipped kitchen. Ahmed al-Sada, general manager of Luxury Cruise Factory, said the company had introduced a new caravan reflecting its latest manufacturing capabilities. The 27m-long caravan features a large bedroom, majlis and lounges, plus a massage area, a steam room with sauna facilities, and a gym, combining luxury with functionality for outdoor travel. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are another major attraction, with manufacturers and dealers displaying models designed for off-road driving, hunting, falconry and desert trips. Many have been modified with tents, compact kitchens, navigation and communications systems. At the Alfardan stand, Defender models are attracting attention, including the Defender Trophy, which combines sporty performance with comfort. The company is also showcasing a high-performance vehicle powered by an eight-cylinder engine producing up to 635 horsepower and equipped with the 6D Dynamic suspension system, designed to enhance control and comfort over difficult terrain. Al Mana Commercial is presenting models with petrol-electric powertrains alongside modified vehicles equipped with compact kitchens, integrated tents, outdoor gear, navigation and communications systems for extended desert trips. At the Al Tisser GWM stand, visitors can view the Tank 300, Tank 500 and Tank 700, as well as a 2027-model pickup. Modified vehicles focus on power, reliability and off-road capability, while pickups are attracting interest for their spaciousness and ability to carry outdoor equipment. Local innovation is also prominent, with Qatari companies presenting technology and specialised services for hunters and falconers. The DTS “Made in Qatar” stand is showcasing aircraft designed to train and improve falcon fitness. Smart controls allow falconers to set speed, altitude and distance according to training requirements. The Khazzaz reaches up to 150kph with a range exceeding 500m, while the Rabda can reach 120kph with a range of 23km. The compact Hafana is designed for easy transport and storage. DTS is also displaying the Qaffal, an aircraft designed to carry fishing lines and bait to distant locations at sea. It reaches speeds of up to 65kph, has a range of about 2km and features smart guidance, control and water-resistant capabilities. Meanwhile, Thabet is showcasing solutions for equipping desert vehicles, including communications and navigation systems, GPS devices and other outdoor equipment. Together, these products show how S’hail brings traditional hunting and falconry culture together with modern manufacturing, technology, and outdoor innovation. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) announced Tuesday the start of the migratory bird hunting season, which will continue until February 15, 2027, in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 7 of 2026 regarding the determination of the bird hunting season for specified bird species and the authorized means and methods of hunting.In a statement, the ministry stressed the need for hunters to adhere to the regulations and requirements governing the hunting season, and to comply with the types and methods specified in the ministerial decision, in order to contribute to protecting wildlife, conserving biodiversity, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and maintaining ecological balance in the country. The decision specifies the bird species that are allowed to be hunted during the season, namely: houbara bustard, common curlew, mallard, blue rock thrush, song thrush (Al-Rukkhukh), common golden oriole, crested lark, Isabelline wheatear, desert wheatear, and northern wheatear.The decision also prohibits the hunting of any other species of wild animals, birds, or reptiles not included in the list of species permitted to be hunted, in accordance with national legislation governing the protection of the environment and wildlife.The ministry stressed that hunting the houbara bustard should be restricted to the use of falcons only, and prohibited the use of unauthorized means and equipment, particularly devices that mimic bird calls, due to their potential negative impact on wildlife and ecological balance.The MOECC called on all hunters to abide by the provisions of the decision and the regulations governing the hunting season, and to practice hunting responsibly in a manner that respects the protection of wildlife and its natural habitats. It noted that compliance with environmental legislation is a shared responsibility that contributes to conserving biodiversity and ensuring its sustainability for future generations. 

The activities of the 17th edition of Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2026) will start on Thursday, Jan 1, and will continue until Jan 24 at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine area.The festival is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, and it is supported by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund 'Daam'.Muteb al-Qahtani, director of Championships at the Al-Qannas Qatari Society and chairman of the Marmi Festival, revealed that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will signal the launch of the festival on the evening of Jan 1, 2026, with the first group.He explained that the championship is dedicated to Shaheen falcon chicks, where a homing pigeon and a falcon are released. If the falcon manages to catch or corner the pigeon at a specific location, it is declared the winner and falconer is awarded QR100,000, in addition to qualifying for the final to compete for a Lexus car. He noted that the number of groups in the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship for this edition is 18.He added that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will continue with the second group on the following day, Jan 2. On the same day, the qualifying rounds of the Tal’a Championship for groups 1 to 5 will begin in the morning.He explained that the championship features 30 groups and is based on the falcon’s visual strength in spotting prey, as a houbara bustard is placed 2km from the falcon’s location. The falcon that launches first, lands, and captures the prey qualifies. On Jan 3, the qualifiers for groups six to 10 will take place, while in the evening, the Promising Falconer Championship will be held in parallel with the qualifying rounds of the Saluki Race Championship.The chairman of the Marmi Festival noted that the organising committee opened online registration for promising falconers on Dec 25 which will continue until 11pm on Jan 1, pointing out that the championship is open to the 6–15 age group. The competition will be in the Da’w event over a distance of 200m for the following categories: Tab’a and Shawayhina (wild or bred), and Qarmousha, Koubaj, and Wokri (wild or bred).Al-Qahtani further stated that the Tal’a Championship qualifiers for groups 11 to 15 will take place on Jan 4, groups 16 to 20 on Jan 5, groups 21 to 25 on Jan 6, and groups 26 to 30 on Jan 7.Immediately after the completion of the Tal’a Championship qualifiers, a draw will be conducted to determine the dates of the upcoming final rounds.In addition, al-Qahtani explained that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will resume with Group 3 on Jan 4, Group 4 (Jan 5), Group 5 (Jan 6), Group 6 (Jan 7), Group 7 (Jan 8), Group 8 (Jan 9), Group 9 (Jan 10), Group 10 (Jan 11), Group 11 (Jan 12), Group 12 (Jan 13), Group 13 (Jan 14), Group 14 (Jan 15), Group 15 (Jan 16), Group 16 (Jan 18), Group 17 (Jan 19), and Group 18 (Jan 20).He further noted that the Local Da’w Championship will be held on Jan 13. He explained that this competition measures the speed of falcons flying from the starting point to the finish line over a distance of 400m, which is a local distance.He added that the Local Da’w Championship will begin on Jan 13 morning for the categories of Gyr-Shaheen chick and locally bred free falcon chick, followed by local production in all categories. On Jan 14, qualifiers will be held for the Gyr Qarnass and free falcon chick categories, while on Jan 15, qualifiers will be held for the Gyr-Shaheen Qarnass and Shaheen Qarnass categories. The Local Da’w finals will conclude with the Gyr chick and free falcon Qarnass categories on the morning of Jan 16.He pointed out that the Saluki Race Championship final will take place on the evening of Saturday, Jan 17.He also noted that the Local Da’w final for all categories will be held on the morning of Jan 19, while the International Da’w final will take place on Jan 20. He said registration details and categories for the international event will be announced soon.Al-Qahtani added that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship final will be held on the evening of Jan 23, while the Mazayin Championship (Falcon Beauty contest) will take place on Jan 24.The festival aims to preserve the cultural and emotional values of this sport inherited from forefathers, in addition to its importance in Arab folk heritage literature, particularly in the Gulf and Qatari context. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Marine Protection Department has spotted a violation involving the hunting of nine seagull birds that were found aboard a marine vessel, in breach of environmental laws and regulations.Accordingly, the Marine Protection Department patrols took the necessary legal measures against the violators in accordance with the environmental protection laws in force in the country. The birds were also released back into their natural habitat, contributing to the conservation of local biodiversity, protecting these wild species from the risk of extinction, and supporting the sustainability of the marine ecosystem.Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change urges all marine environment users to preserve the marine environment and all its natural components, comply with environmental legislation, and refrain from hunting endangered wildlife or species whose hunting is prohibited. Besides, the Ministry reaffirmed its continued monitoring and follow-up of such violations and its commitment to taking all necessary measures to ensure the protection of the marine environment and its natural resources.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's Department of Land Protection in cooperation with the Environmental Security Unit of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), has carried out a surprise inspection campaign in various sites in the northern region of the country. During the campaign, an unlicensed bird-hunting shelter that had been set up in violation of applicable environmental regulations was detected and removed. This action is part of the ministry’s measures to address any practices that harm the environment or distort the public landscape. The campaign is part of a series of periodic field inspections conducted by the ministry to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations, as well as to preserve vegetation cover and biodiversity across different regions of the country, supporting Qatar’s environmental sustainability goals.

The 9th Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition – S’hail 2025 continues to shine in its ninth edition, reaffirming its position as a global platform celebrating the heritage of hunting and falconry, while offering visitors and participants a rich experience that blends authenticity with the spirit of innovation.The exhibition, running until tomorrow at Katara Cultural Village, has been drawing a large number of visitors since it opened on Wednesday.S’hail 2025 director Abdulaziz al-Sayed described the event as a comprehensive platform for showcasing the latest products in hunting rifles, camping and falconry gear, falcon farms, as well as outfitting and modifying hunting vehicles, caravans, and trailers, in addition to knives and handicrafts.“S’hail represents an exceptional opportunity to connect with a wide audience of enthusiasts and experts, build international networks, and launch pioneering projects in an environment that celebrates heritage while embracing creativity at the same time,” he said.S’hail 2025 has stood out with the diversity of its pavilions and participants, as companies unveiled their latest innovations in hunting, camping, and smart technologies – offering an exceptional experience that caters to a wide range of tastes and aspirations.Among the attractions is the pavilion of Qatar’s Golden Cabin Company, which specialises in manufacturing mobile homes and caravans.It unveiled its Smart Room technology, fully powered by solar energy, enabling caravans to run 24/7.This technology is the first of its kind and the most advanced in the Middle East, with models customisable to client needs, providing camping enthusiasts with a modern, sustainable, and fully integrated experience in the heart of nature.A selection of leading international companies in off-road vehicle outfitting has showcased the latest accessories and technological solutions designed to take desert trips and camping adventures to unprecedented levels of luxury and safety.The exhibition also featured a distinctive programme of events that attracts both visitors and participants, including auctions of rare falcons, competitions for the most beautiful burqa (falcon hood), best pavilion, and best garage, along with workshops and awareness sessions highlighting the sustainability of hunting sports and the preservation of environmental and cultural heritage.As part of national efforts to protect wildlife, the External Reserves Office of the State, affiliated with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), is taking part at S’hail 2025 to raise awareness about the endangered houbara bustard.Four centres are producing more than 21,500 birds annually, with plans to expand production capacity through three additional centres by 2026, located both within Qatar and abroad, in countries such as Morocco, Algeria, China, Kazakhstan, and Iran.This initiative is one of the region’s most significant environmental conservation efforts, reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to maintaining ecological balance and promoting biodiversity.The exhibition has also showcased the works of 30 artists, presenting around 80 pieces ranging from fine arts to sculpture and various schools of artistic expression, turning S’hail into a vibrant platform of creativity and inspiration for visitors.In addition, live studios on-site broadcast events and interviews in real time.The programme includes a series of lectures aimed at raising awareness and spreading knowledge on hunting, falconry, and the preservation of the environment and cultural heritage.
