PHCC Wellness Section, QU College of Medicine organise awareness event

The Wellness Section at the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) organised a health awareness event to highlight the importance of prevention and early detection of health risk factors, and to encourage students and employees to adopt a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.Held in collaboration with the College of Medicine at Qatar University (QU) and involving the wellness team and medical students, the event is part of PHCC’s efforts to implement the Wellness Section’s strategy and action plan under the Preventive Health Department. The initiative promotes healthy lifestyles, behaviours and habits as part of efforts to prevent disease and improve overall health.The initiative featured a general awareness and guidance booth, where a team of medical and specialised professionals provided health information and advice, along with several interactive stations that enabled participants to undergo various health checks and measurements.**media[493992]**The event included six health stations that students and employees visited, where measurements were taken and results recorded in their health passports, enabling them to monitor their health indicators and better understand areas for improvement.The stations included vital signs, where participants had their vital signs measured and received appropriate health guidance; body mass index (BMI), which assessed body composition while raising awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy weight; carbon monoxide measurement and smoking counselling, which involved checking carbon monoxide levels and providing guidance on the risks of smoking and available methods to quit; and blood glucose measurement, which allowed participants to check their blood sugar levels and learn about the importance of prevention and regular monitoring.**media[493993]**In addition, handgrip strength was measured as a functional indicator associated with health and physical fitness. One-on-one sessions with a community medicine physician also provided individual lifestyle consultations to discuss healthy habits and offer personalised tips on nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle.This event supports a culture of prevention and early detection and strengthens individual responsibility for health by offering a practical, interactive experience that combines screening, awareness, and health consultation.The event also encourages students and employees to learn about their health indicators and take positive steps to improve their health and quality of life, in line with promoting healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.

Qatar Cancer Society launches ‘Let’s Draw a Smile’ campaign to support children with cancer

Qatar Cancer Society launched the “Let’s Draw a Smile” campaign this September to raise awareness of childhood cancers, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote health awareness across the community, emphasise the importance of healthy lifestyles, and support children living with cancer and their families.The campaign features a range of awareness programmes and activities targeting children, parents, and other community members. These include in-person and virtual lectures and workshops highlighting childhood cancers, key signs and symptoms that require attention, and the importance of health awareness in recognising and responding early to any unusual changes.“Let’s Draw a Smile” campaign also places particular emphasis on encouraging healthy lifestyles from an early age. As part of these efforts, QCS is organising healthy cooking programmes and workshops for children and their families to promote sound nutritional practices and encourage healthy habits that can become part of their daily lives.As part of the campaign’s humanitarian and community-focused efforts, QCS has also launched a fundraising initiative to help support the treatment costs of children with cancer, in collaboration with many selected restaurants and cafés. Under the initiative, QAR 5 from every beverage purchased at participating outlets will be donated to support children’s treatment, offering members of the community a simple and meaningful way to contribute to their treatment journey.Mona Ashkanani, general manager of Qatar Cancer Society, said that “Let’s Draw a Smile” reflects QCS’s vision and its belief that awareness and support go hand in hand. She emphasised that addressing cancer extends beyond healthcare alone and requires a supportive community environment that fosters hope and stands alongside children and their families throughout the treatment journey.She called on individuals and institutions across the community to engage with the campaign’s activities and participate in its awareness and humanitarian initiatives, stressing that every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference and bring a smile of hope to a child’s face.She added: “This initiative reflects the importance of collective efforts among community organisations, the private sector, and individuals in supporting people living with cancer and strengthening the concept of social responsibility. A simple everyday action can become a meaningful contribution that makes a real difference in the life of a child and their family.”

“Hour and hour” and the Qatar Cancer Society strengthen collaboration to spread health awareness

The “hour and hour” Program Under the slogan “Window of Hope,” the (Hour and Hour) program continues its community collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), as part of joint efforts aimed at spreading health awareness and promoting a culture of prevention and early detection of diseases, through awareness initiatives and educational activities targeting various segments of society. **media[433376]**This collaboration takes place under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Cancer Society, who emphasizes the importance of community partnerships in supporting health awareness efforts and consolidating the culture of early screening as one of the fundamental pillars of disease prevention, especially cancer. Both parties are working to organize events and health education sessions that highlight the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles based on physical activity and balanced nutrition, in addition to disseminating simplified medical knowledge about the importance of early detection and its role in improving treatment and recovery outcomes.**media[433379]** In this context, social activist Tamani Al-Yafei, CEO of the “hour and hour ’” Program, affirmed that the collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society stems from the program’s community mission to enhance health awareness and encourage community members to take care of their health and undergo regular checkups. She pointed out that the program continues to launch ongoing awareness initiatives under the slogan “Window of Hope,” having organized four editions of these initiatives featuring distinctive events, including an inspirational discussion session within the “Pink October” activities titled “Inspiration Session” under the same slogan in October 2024, which focused on supporting patients and survivors and strengthening hope in the face of illness.**media[433378]** She stated that an awareness event was organized on the occasion of World Cancer Day and Qatar National Sports Day in February 2025, titled “We Meet for Awareness” under the slogan “Window of Hope,” combining health education with promoting physical activity as one of the most important preventive elements. She added that in May 2025, the program continued its efforts through an awareness event marking Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month and the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, reaffirming the connection between physical health and sports activity in building a conscious and healthy society, under the same slogan. She explained that October 2025 witnessed the organization of the “Awareness and Technology” event under the slogan “Window of Hope,” which was distinguished by integrating technological innovation into disseminating health messages. Tamani Al-Yafei added that the launch of the initiative’s slogan “Window of Hope” came as a contribution to supporting patients and survivors and spreading positive messages that reinforce a culture of hope and community solidarity in the face of illness, alongside highlighting the importance of sports and healthy lifestyles in disease prevention. The ongoing collaboration between the “hour and hour ’” Program and the Qatar Cancer Society reflects the importance of integrating efforts between health institutions and community programs in spreading health awareness and promoting a culture of prevention, contributing to building a more aware society capable of facing health challenges. It is worth noting that His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Cancer Society, recently honored Tamani Al-Yafei, CEO of the “hour and hour’” Program, in recognition of her efforts in supporting community initiatives and enhancing health awareness culture, as well as her role in expanding the reach of educational messages targeting various segments of society. The honoring took place during the Qatar Cancer Society’s annual ceremony to recognize partners and supporters, appreciating their vital role in supporting the Society’s humanitarian mission, enhancing its efforts to spread awareness about cancer, empowering those living with it, and improving their quality of life.
