The strength of the Qatari economy, continued spending on strategic projects and robust financial positions of many listed companies are supporting the prospects for a recovery in Q3, particularly if results are in line with or exceed investor expectations, according to financial markets analyst Youssef Bouhlaika.

QSE investors seen repositioning ahead of Q3 earnings

The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) ended the week's trading up 0.62 %, adding 60.35 points to bring the benchmark index to 9,824 points.The index benefited from gains in five sectors, led by the industrials sector, which posted the strongest increase of 1.76%, while the transportation sector recorded the largest decline, falling 0.85%.Commenting on the performance, financial markets analyst Youssef Bouhlaika told QNA that investors were reassessing their positions ahead of the earnings season, particularly as third-quarter results would provide an important indication of companies' ability to maintain profitability levels amid higher financing costs and a slowdown in some activities. He noted that market movements remain under pressure from global interest rates and the repercussions of geopolitical developments in the region, while investors await Q3 results of listed companies.He also said the selling pressure in the market during the recent period could create attractive investment opportunities for new investors and those with a long-term outlook, stressing that the current developments represent a natural phase of uncertainty associated with interest-rate cycles rather than a fundamental shift in the market's overall direction.Bouhlaika also noted that the strength of the Qatari economy, continued spending on strategic projects and the robust financial positions of many listed companies are factors supporting the prospects for a recovery in Q3, particularly if financial results are in line with or exceed investor expectations. He noted that the industrials as well as the banks and financial services sectors remain the main drivers of the market amid the sensitivity of stocks to the trajectory of interest rates and financing costs, while the remaining sectors have shown clear variations in performance.

The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index closed the week up 1.93%, gaining 191.56 to settle at 10,112.25 points, supported by gains across six sectors, while the consumer goods and services sector posted losses.

Regional de-escalation efforts seen to bolster QSE performance

The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index closed the week up 1.93%, gaining 191.56 to settle at 10,112.25 points, supported by gains across six sectors, while the consumer goods and services sector posted losses.Commenting on the market's performance, financial analyst Mohammed Salem al-Darwish told Qatar News Agency that geopolitical developments in the region had a direct impact on market performance over the past period, noting that de-escalation efforts contributed to supporting the stock market this week.He said the index had crossed the 10,000-point level and is expected to maintain its gains above that threshold next week, supported by positive indicators pointing to easing regional tensions.Al-Darwish also expected that signs of de-escalation and a potential agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz would provide further support for the market and help sustain the index's gains, citing the strength of the Qatari economy and the solid financial position of listed companies.QSE data showed that the insurance sector recorded the strongest weekly performance, rising 3.52%, followed by telecommunications at 3.51%, transportation 3.48%, banking and financial services 2.57%, real estate 1.45%, and industry at 0.55%. The consumer goods and services sector, meanwhile, declined by 0.56%.During the week, a total of 678,213,770 shares were traded, with a combined value exceeding QR1.69bn, across 124,383 transactions in all sectors.

QCB assesses resilience of financial sector and announces pre-emptive support measures

Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has reviewed the recent geopolitical developments and their implications for the domestic financial system.The review confirmed that the financial system continues to operate from a position of strength. Liquidity continues to be strong, capital levels significantly exceed regulatory requirements, and provisioning provides strong coverage against credit risk.The review noted that banks continue to hold substantial liquidity in both domestic and foreign currency and that resources are sufficient to meet customer demand, support normal market activity, and meet any short term funding pressures under stressed conditions.The financial sector’s position reflects the structural strengths that the financial sector has developed over time. The review noted that during prior periods of global market stress, the banking system demonstrated resilience and that current conditions do not change that underlying strength. The external environment, however, remains uncertain, and the QCB recognizes that conditions can change.In this context, the QCB has decided that it is prudent to implement the following precautionary measures:Monetary Policy Measures: QCB will offer an unlimited amount of Qatari riyal (QAR) repurchase (repo) facilities against eligible securities held by banks, in order to continue to ensure deep QAR liquidity in the local market.In addition to the existing overnight repo facility offered by the QCB, the QCB will introduce a term repo facility with maturities of up to three months.This new term repo facility will enable banks to manage cash flow with greater certainty during the current period. QCB will reduce the reserve requirement on deposits from 4.5% to 3.5%, which will release additional liquidity.QCB will also permit banks to offer borrowers affected by the current circumstances the option to defer loan principal and interest payments for a period of up to three months. Any such payment deferrals will be applied in accordance with banks’ internal policies and supervisory guidance.QCB will continue to monitor global, regional, and domestic developments closely and will continue to act in a timely and prudent manner to support financial stability and orderly market functioning.
