The Museum of Islamic Art hosted a screening on Monday of the documentary Inside Gaza, directed by Helene Lam Trong, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of France in Doha.The screening was attended by HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater; Ambassador of France to the State of Qatar Arnaud Pescheux; Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Qatar Fayez Majed Abu Al Rub; as well as a number of Their Excellencies ambassadors, diplomats, and guests accredited to the State.The documentary Inside Gaza recounts part of the lives of Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalists who found themselves trapped inside Gaza during the first months of the war, as their personal lives became intertwined with the tragedy they were documenting.The film follows the daily lives of these journalists beginning on October 7, 2023, as they documented the horrors unfolding in the besieged territory, where thousands of people, most of them civilians, were killed.Director Helene Lam Trong relied almost exclusively on AFP footage, most of which was filmed by the journalists whose experiences are featured throughout the documentary.In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the French Ambassador said that the screening of Inside Gaza, which highlights the work and experiences of AFP journalists in Gaza, reflects France's commitment to protecting journalists.He stressed that France, like Qatar, believes journalists should never be targeted and must be protected while carrying out their professional duties.The ambassador added that the event also reflects France's long-standing commitment to the peace process, noting that France remains dedicated to achieving a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.He stressed that France is committed to finding a durable solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.He said they recently held a conference in Paris that brought together civil society organizations from both Israel and Palestine. Tonight's event is another expression of their commitment to the peace process.For his part, The Palestinian Ambassador said the documentary does not merely document events and facts, but also serves as a living human testimony to the suffering of the Palestinian people and the courage of journalists who carried cameras and pens under extraordinary circumstances.He emphasized that truth deserves to be told and conveyed to the world.During this war, he added, Palestinian journalists became both witnesses to events and victims of them at the same time, adding that Palestine, and Gaza in particular, has become one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists and media workers.He stressed that the best way to honor journalists who lost their lives while performing their professional duties is not only to remember their names, but also to continue working for justice, ensure accountability and an end to impunity, and protect press freedom as one of the fundamental pillars of justice and human dignity.Meanwhile, Palestinian AFP photographer Mahmud Hams, who appears in the documentary, told QNA that the film portrays only part of the suffering endured by journalists in Gaza, both during the current war and previous conflicts, including the dangers they face behind the camera.He noted that the latest war in Gaza has been among the deadliest conflicts for journalists.More than 262 Palestinian journalists have been killed during the recent Israeli offensive on Gaza.The targeting extended beyond individuals to include media institutions, broadcasting and production facilities, telecommunications companies, and infrastructure essential to journalistic work, in what has been described as an attempt to silence the Palestinian narrative and prevent the truth from reaching the world. 

Israeli strikes killed at least ​10 Palestinians, including five ‌members of the same family, in separate attacks in ‌the Gaza ⁠Strip yesterday, health ‌officials said.Medics in Gaza said ‌Israeli aircraft struck four apartments before dawn, including the family's home, killing ⁠nine people and wounding at least 15.Later, a separate airstrike killed one person and wounded others near Wehda Street in Gaza City, medics said, taking the day's death toll to at least 10.The Israeli military did not immediately comment.Reuters footage after the first strike showed a blown-out building with charred and damaged ​furniture, with debris strewn across the road.A video circulating on Palestinian social media, which Reuters could not immediately verify, showed people entering an apartment with blankets to ‌recover bodies."We were woken ⁠up by the ​strike at 2:30am. We found pieces of flesh and ​people were sleeping. They say the war is over but the war is not over," Khalil Batran, a neighbour of the family who were killed, told Reuters.A girl was the only survivor of the strike on the family home, medics said."There is no safety in Gaza ... Every day they fire at us from there and strike us with missiles. It's futile," Batran added.A ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump has failed to halt ‌Israeli attacks and left ‌Israel in control of more ⁠than half the enclave after October 2023.Indirect talks on a second phase of the deal — including Hamas disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawals — have stalled.Some 930 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the ​truce began, according to figures from Gaza health officials. 

A Palestinian man succumbed to his wounds on Sunday after being injured in an Israeli airstrike near the Firas market in central Gaza City.The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), citing medical sources, reported that the man had been wounded in the attack on the area before succumbing to his injuries.The death toll from the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 72,819, with 172,894 wounded.Israeli forces continue to violate the ceasefire agreement by carrying out further assassinations, artillery shelling, airstrikes, and heavy gunfire in various areas of the Gaza Strip. 

The foreign ministers of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt and Turkiye have strongly condemned the appalling, degrading, and unacceptable actions of extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against participants in the Gaza-bound flotilla while they were in Israeli detention. The ministers stressed that Ben-Gvir’s “deliberate public humiliation of detainees is a disgraceful assault on human dignity and a clear violation of Israel’s obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and international human rights law”. The ministers further deplored and condemned in the strongest terms the illegal and extremist acts of incitement and violence by Ben Gvir and other Israeli officials directed against Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The ministers warned that Ben-Gvir’s provocative actions fuel hatred and extremism, and obstruct efforts to advance a just and lasting peace on the basis of the two-state solution. The ministers demanded accountability for Ben-Gvir’s actions and call for concrete measures to end his repeated provocations, incitement, and violations, and to prevent him from further threatening and to ensure that such actions are neither tolerated nor repeated. They further stressed the imperative of protecting human rights and safeguarding the dignity and humane treatment of all detainees, and ensuring full respect for international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. ( 

An Israeli strike killed five police officers and a child in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday, said rescuers and the Palestinian territory’s police force, which operate under Hamas authority. Gaza’s civil defence agency reported six people killed and “a certain number of injured” after an airstrike targeted a police site in the al-Tuam area.The al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City confirmed that it received six bodies, which included those of five police officers and one child born in 2011. An AFP correspondent there saw at least three bodies wrapped in white shrouds.The police force in Gaza said five of its officers were killed, adding that two missiles had been fired on the police site in al-Tuam. A witness said the attack targeted a tent used by police, located next to a checkpoint.An Israeli military source told AFP the army had targeted “Hamas terrorists” in the area. A ceasefire has been in place since October, but Israel reserves the right to strike targets it deems a threat.Gaza remains gripped by daily violence as Israeli strikes continue, with both the military and Hamas accusing one another of violating the truce. The Hamas government’s interior ministry said 42 police officers have been killed in the territory since the ceasefire took effect.In a statement, Hamas denounced what it described as “a crime” against police officers intended “to spread chaos in the Gaza Strip”. At least 890 Palestinians have been killed since the October 10 ceasefire, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority and whose figures are considered reliable by the UN.Media restrictions and limited access in Gaza have prevented AFP from independently verifying casualty figures or freely covering the fighting. 

Canada’s foreign minister slammed Israel yesterday over “deeply troubling and absolutely unacceptable” footage of detained activists from an intercepted Gaza-bound flotilla. “I have directed my officials to summon the Israeli ambassador regarding the mistreatment of civilians aboard the flotilla. What we’ve seen, including the video shared by Itamar Ben Gvir, is deeply troubling and absolutely unacceptable,” Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand said, referring to Israel’s far-right national security chief.  

Israeli authorities have begun detaining hundreds of activists seized from a Gaza-bound flotilla at the southern port of Ashdod on Wednesday, a rights group said, after Israeli forces intercepted their vessels at sea. The Global Sumud Flotilla set sail from Turkey last week in the latest attempt by activists to breach Israel's blockade of the Palestinian territory, after Israeli forces intercepted a previous convoy last month.Israeli authorities said 430 activists aboard the flotilla were en route to Israel, while rights group Adalah said some had already arrived at Ashdod port and were being held there."Having set sail toward Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge the unlawful blockade, these civilian participants were forcefully abducted from international waters and taken into Israeli territory entirely against their will," Adalah said."These acts are a direct extension of Israel's policies of collective punishment and starvation of Palestinians in Gaza."Around 50 ships had departed from southwestern Turkey on Thursday. Nine Indonesian citizens who were part of the flotilla "have all been reported arrested by Israel," a spokeswoman for Indonesia's foreign ministry said, citing information dated Wednesday.Indonesia called on Israel to immediately release all vessels and crew members, adding that "every diplomatic channel and consular measure will continue to be fully utilised".Indonesian newspaper Republika earlier said two of its journalists were among the nine Indonesians detained. Turkey and Spain have condemned the interception.Organisers said the flotilla also included 15 Irish citizens, including Margaret Connolly, sister of President Catherine Connolly. 

 The State of Qatar affirmed that recognition of the Nakba is an indispensable foundation for any just, comprehensive, and lasting peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue. This was stated in Qatar's statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the special meeting of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba at the UN headquarters in New York. Her Excellency emphasized the importance of adopting General Assembly Resolution 79/82, noting that Qatar takes pride in being among the sponsors of this resolution, as recognition of the Nakba is essential for achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. She reaffirmed Qatar's commitment that the names of all Palestinian child martyrs will not be forgotten, describing them as victims of a continuing Nakba, whose suffering cannot be ignored by the international community. In this context, she highlighted Qatar's consistent positions regarding the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, renewing Qatar's condemnation of Israel's illegal decisions concerning the West Bank, including reclassifying Palestinian land as so-called "state land" of Israel, accelerating settlement activity, enacting a law allowing the death penalty in the West Bank, and restricting freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem. Regarding the Gaza Strip, Her Excellency stressed Qatar's insistence on full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, opening crossings to ensure sustainable and unobstructed humanitarian aid, reaffirming Qatar's firm commitment to the peace council from the first day of mediation efforts until the signing of the Sharm El Sheikh agreement with partners, and highlighting the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803. HE the Permanent Representative reiterated Qatar's principled and steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people, based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution.She emphasized the need to guarantee Palestinian self-determination, establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, end occupation and settlement activities, halt Israel's illegal practices in occupied territories, and ensure the right of return for Palestinian refugees in accordance with international law. Her Excellency also stressed Qatar's ongoing commitment to politically, diplomatically, and financially support UNRWA in fulfilling its mandate to serve the Palestinian people, in line with General Assembly Resolution 302 (IV). 

Qatar condemned the Israeli occupation’s renewed attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, considering it a blatant violation of international law, humanitarian values, and maritime security, and a perpetuation of the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip. In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) stressed that the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, including the intimidation of those who stand in solidarity with their legitimate rights, will exacerbate the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip.The ministry stressed the need for the international community to stand in solidarity to compel the occupation to open the crossings, remove the illegal restrictions on the flow of aid, provide protection for Palestinians, and release the activists it arrested after seizing the flotilla. – QNA 

 Israeli forces were intercepting a Gaza-bound aid flotilla on Monday after it set sail from Turkey last week, with organisers saying one of the vessels was stopped west of Cyprus."Military vessels are currently intercepting our fleet and IDF forces are currently boarding the first of our boats in broad daylight," the Global Sumud Flotilla posted on X."We demand safe passage for our legal, non-violent humanitarian mission. Governments must act now to stop these illegal acts or piracy meant to maintain Israel's genocidal siege on Gaza."Normalisation of the occupation's violence is a threat to us all." Around 50 ships had departed from southwestern Turkey on Thursday as part of the flotilla.On Monday, Israel had vowed to block the vessels. "Israel will not allow any breach of the lawful naval blockade on Gaza," the foreign ministry posted on X."Israel calls on all participants in this provocation to change course and turn back immediately." The ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether Israeli forces were intercepting the boats.The Global Sumud Flotilla is the third initiative in a year aimed at breaking an Israeli blockade of Gaza, which has suffered severe shortages of food, water, medicine and fuel since the Israel-Hamas war broke out in October 2023. Israeli authorities reject claims of aid shortages, saying the Palestinian territory is "flooded" with supplies.Israeli forces intercepted the second flotilla in international waters off Greece on April 30, expelling most of the activists to Europe. But they arrested two of them, who were held for several days in Israel before they were deported. Rights groups said the arrests were illegal and that the men suffered abuse while in Israeli detention.Israeli authorities have rejected the abuse allegations but filed no charges against the pair.

MoFA describes incident as blatant violation of international lawOIC calls the move a deliberate provocation to Muslims worldwide Qatar condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israel's extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir , as well as the provocative actions and violations committed by settlers under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, including restrictions on worshipers' access to the mosque.In a statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and an unacceptable provocation to the sentiments of millions of Muslims around the world.The ministry also warned that such actions represent a dangerous attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. The ministry stressed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, affirming that all unilateral measures aimed at changing the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy sites are null and void under international law.It warned that continued violations and provocations would further fuel violence and instability in the region and undermine efforts to restore calm and stability. The ministry renewed Qatar's call on the international community to take urgent action to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its ongoing violations against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, and to comply with relevant international resolutions.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reiterated Qatar's firm support for the Palestinian cause and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, based on ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.Meanwhile, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned a visit by Israel's far-right National Security Minister to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.In a statement issued from its headquarters in Makkah, the OIC described the visit, which took place under Israeli police protection, as a "blatant assault" and a deliberate provocation to Muslims worldwide.The organization also criticised the raising of the Israeli flag and what it described as provocative religious practices carried out within the compound's courtyards. The OIC reiterated its long-standing position that Israel, as an occupying power, holds no sovereignty over the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. 

 Wearing traditional Palestinian dresses, the white fabric intricately embroidered in a rainbow of colours, dozens of smiling brides clutched red bouquets as they walked with their grooms past the tents and ruined buildings of Gaza City.To the tune of popular songs played from loudspeakers in a city square, the couples whose marriages had been long-delayed by war and displacement, sat on stage with joy written across their faces.Thousands turned out to watch the mass wedding against the backdrop of buildings gutted by Israeli strikes over the course of the devastating two-year war.Attendees clapped and smiled as a troupe performed the dabke, an Arabic folk dance, while women's ululations echoed through the crowd."I can't quite believe that I'm finally getting married," Ali Mosbeh told AFP at the start of the ceremony."I was sitting in the tent when my phone rang... I couldn't believe it. I'm still in shock," he said, recounting the moment he received the call informing him that he was among the 50 young men selected.The mass wedding is one of many to have been organised since a ceasefire took effect in Gaza in October.This particular event was organised and funded by the Turkish humanitarian organisation IHH.The smartly-dressed grooms wore traditional Palestinian kaffiyeh scarves adorned with the Turkish organisation's logo, while the brides' bouquets were dotted with small Turkish flags.For Mosbeh and his bride Huda al-Kahlout, the high cost of weddings had also posed an obstacle to tying the knot."I never imagined I'd get married in such circumstances," he said.Most of Gaza's population was displaced at least once during the war between Israel and Hamas, with hundreds of thousands still living in tents or makeshift shelters.Mosbeh said he would now share a tent with his wife while hoping to find a job – something that has become near impossible in Gaza."Our future is uncertain; we depend on aid to survive," admitted Kahlout, but said that despite "war, loss and death... Marriage remains a beautiful milestone for us young people"."Most of the buildings around the venue have been destroyed and reduced to rubble, with the martyrs buried beneath them," said fellow bride, Fayqa Abu Zeid.However, she added: "We are trying, despite everything, to find joy and carry on living."Before the war, "the newlyweds would move into a flat with new furniture. Today, we move into a tent, if there is one", she said.Despite the devastation, her husband Mohammed al-Ghossain was smiling."We are very happy," he said. "It is the happiest day of our lives."
