Dubai airport passenger traffic drops 66 percent over Mideast war

Dubai airport's passenger traffic plunged by two-thirds in March following Iran's attacks on the United Arab Emirates during the Middle East war, the emirate's media office said in a statement on Monday. Traveller numbers at Dubai International, usually the world's busiest for international passenger traffic, sank to 2.5 million, down 66 percent year on year, Dubai Media Office said.The airport endured "a period of regional disruption that significantly constrained airspace capacity and flight schedules", it said. "With airspace within the UAE now fully restored, Dubai Airports is moving decisively to scale up operations, increasing flight movements in line with available regional routing capacity." Dubai International was targeted several times by drones as the oil-rich UAE bore the brunt of Iran's retaliation for US-Israeli strikes.Quarterly traffic was down 21 percent to 18.6 million in the first quarter of 2026. Dubai International handled a record 95.2 million passengers last year, and had been expecting to receive 99.5 million this year. "The extraordinary events of the past few weeks are unprecedented for any major airport hub," Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths was quoted as saying in the statemen

Gold prices post biggest one-day drop in four decades

Gold prices plunged on Friday, heading for their largest one-day decline since 1983, while silver fell nearly 30 percent and was on track for its worst day ever.In spot trading, gold dropped 9.5 percent to $4,883.62 an ounce after hitting a record high of $5,594.82 on Thursday. Gold for February delivery fell 11.4 percent to settle at $4,745.10 an ounce.Among other precious metals, silver in spot trading tumbled 27.7 percent to $83.99 an ounce, after dipping as low as $77.72 earlier. Silver was headed for its largest single-day drop ever, while platinum lost 19.18 percent to $2,125 an ounce and palladium fell 15.7 percent to $1,682.

Oman oil price drops USD 1.16

The price of Oman oil (November delivery 2025) reached USD 62.74 on Tuesday, marking a drop of USD 1.16 compared to Monday’s price of USD 63.90.The average price of Oman oil (October delivery 2025) has stabilized at USD 69.33 per barrel, which is USD 1.87 per barrel lower than the price for the September 2025 delivery.

European stocks fall to two-week low

European stocks declined on Tuesday, as trade fears between the US and China resurfaced, and Michelin's shares fell to its lowest level in more than two years after the French tire company cut its annual outlook. The European Stoxx 600 index dropped 0.6 percent, marking its lowest level in about two weeks after a short-lived rally on Monday. The mining sector posted the largest drop among European sectors, down 2 percent. Automakers' shares fell 1.5 percent, and Michelin plunged 9.3 percent. The shares of Germany's automotive parts maker Continental fell 3.7 percent, while Italy's tire maker Pirelli declined 2.1 percent. Meanwhile, Ericsson of Sweden (a telecommunications equipment maker) jumped 12.4 percent.
