The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ahli Bank to collaborate on initiatives that support fintech innovation, digital transformation, and the continued development of Qatar’s financial services sector. The MoU will leverage the QFC Digital Assets Lab (DAL) to develop digital financial solutions and explore digital assets and tokenisation use cases.  "This MoU with Ahli Bank marks a significant step in our efforts to build a dynamic and forward-looking financial ecosystem in Qatar. By combining our strengths and leveraging the QFC DAL, we are creating the conditions for fintech innovation to thrive and for digital financial solutions to move from concept to market," said Mansoor Rashid al-Khater, chief executive officer, QFC.  Both parties will collaborate closely with technology providers, startups, and broader ecosystem partners to advance the development, adoption, and commercialisation of emerging financial technologies. The partnership will also support the rollout of pilot programmes with the QFC technology firms to accelerate real-world implementation and market readiness of innovative solutions.  The MoU further provides a framework for the joint organisation of events, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at building capability and strengthening industry engagement. Ongoing coordination between the QFC and Ahli Bank is poised to align priorities and unlock new opportunities as the partnership progresses.  Reflecting a shared commitment to advancing innovation, the MoU reinforces Qatar’s position as a regional financial hub and supports the growth of its ecosystem by encouraging fintech companies to establish and expand their presence within the QFC. “At Ahli Bank, we see innovation and strategic collaboration as key enablers of the future of banking. Our partnership with QFC reflects a shared ambition to support the growth of fintech and accelerate digital transformation across the financial sector," said Hassan Alefrangi, chief executive officer of Ahli Bank.  Through this collaboration and Ahli Bank’s strong presence on the ground, the bank looks forward to exploring opportunities that strengthen digital capabilities, encourage knowledge exchange, and contribute to the development of a more agile and progressive financial landscape in Qatar, according to him.

Alaraby Television Network won nine awards at the 2026 Telly Awards, widely regarded as a prestigious international award recognising excellence in television, digital and video production.The awards were granted for a diverse range of documentary, investigative, drama, and factual productions created by the network and its various platforms.This achievement underscores Alaraby TV Network’s growing presence on the international media stage, through productions that tackle urgent humanitarian, political, and historical issues. These works are distinguished by strong visual storytelling and a balanced narrative approach that combines journalistic depth, human sensitivity, and professional integrity.The network received a Gold Award for the documentary “Gaza: Struck off Records” in the Social Impact category. The film presents a powerful account of families wiped out during the Israeli war on Gaza, told through the stories of survivors who have become the last witnesses to their families, transforming loss into a memory that resists erasure.Alaraby also won five Silver Awards. The investigation “Abu Shabab – A Shadow of Occupation in Gaza” was recognised in the Investigative Journalism and Open Source Intelligence category.The report examines the emergence of the Abu Shabab militia in Gaza and allegations of looting aid and collaborating with the Israeli occupation, supported by open-source data and exclusive testimonies from within the Strip.In the Drama Series category, “A Day and Some”, an original Alaraby Plus production, was honoured for its multi-perspective narrative about a Syrian family grappling with loss and daily survival, culminating in a pivotal historical moment that reshapes their destinies.The documentary series “Prison State” won in the Documentary Series category. It documents testimonies of survivors from Sednaya prison and other detention centres of the former Syrian regime following the fall of the Assad family, shedding light on crimes that remained hidden for decades.The film “Sudan: The Forgotten War – Inside El Fasher” received a Silver Award in the General Series – Online (Programs & Segments) category. It captures the devastating reality inside the city of El Fasher after it fell to the Rapid Support Forces, highlighting the collapse of the healthcare system, displacement, hunger, and siege through survivor testimonies.In the Politics and Commentary category, the programme “The Rise of Mamdani: America’s Two Faces” won for tracing Mamdani’s rise during the 2025 New York City mayoral primaries, linking it to broader shifts in American politics and economics.The network also earned three Bronze Awards.The investigation, “The Syrian Coast: Events of Bloody Days,” won in the General Investigative category, documenting sectarian violence on the Syrian coast in March 2025 through exclusive testimonies and critical questions about responsibility.The programme “Fi Al Hadara” (On Civilisation), for its episode “The First Fitna” won in the General Explanation / Knowledge Simplification category, offering an accessible analytical reading of the first Islamic civil strife and its lasting political, military, and intellectual impacts.In the General Documentary category, “Al-Shifa Hospital: A Story of Resilience” was awarded for documenting the escalating tragedy inside Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza since October 2023, culminating in the reopening of the emergency department in September 2024 as a testament to resilience in the face of destruction.These awards reflect the diversity of Alaraby TV Network’s editorial and creative output, from investigative journalism and field documentaries to original drama and knowledge-based programming.All the winning works are available on the Alaraby Plus app, an Arabic platform that offers a free viewing experience combining entertainment and knowledge. The app was relaunched in its new version earlier this year and now includes all of Fadaat Media Group's channels.

The Health, General Services and Environment Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting Tuesday, chaired by His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem, to discuss a proposed law on digital protection of children, in light of the council's decision to refer it to the committee for study.During the meeting, several observations and views related to the proposal were discussed, in addition to legislative and regulatory aspects related to the protection of children in the digital world, as well as the mechanisms that would promote the safe use of modern technologies and digital platforms.At the end of the meeting, the committee decided to complete its study of the topic in a future meeting.

The Shura Council convened Monday at Tamim bin Hamad Hall, chaired by His Excellency the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem.His Excellency the Shura Council Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed al-Mahmoud read out the agenda, with the legislature approving the minutes of its previous session.The council discussed a draft law submitted by a number of council members concerning the digital protection of children.HE al-Ghanem referred the proposal to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee, with the latter to submit its report to the council accordingly.Following deliberation, the legislature unanimously approved to submit the proposal as well to the Health, General Services and the Environment Committee in order to weigh in on it in terms of various aspects and then submit it to the council.The proposal is laid out amid the rapid expansion the world is witnessing in the utilisation of digital means and platforms by children, coupled with potential challenges and risks related to protection of data and privacy, triggering the exposure to harmful content, cyberbullying, and digital exploitation.This digital manifestation obviously precipitates the development of legislative frameworks that boost child protection in the digital environment and keep up with the accelerated technological transformations.In addition, the council endorsed two bills on the Owners’ Association and Measurement, in their amended forms, and referred them to the government after the council members pored over the details of the supplementary report of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee, alongside the report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee.The council also weighed in on a report by Her Excellency the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sulaiti on Doha hosting, through the Council, the 298th session of the Executive Committee meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, convened in January 2026.Similarly, the council debated the participation of council member Dr Sultan bin Hassan al-Dosari in the temporary diplomatic committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in Cairo in August last year.This is alongside the report of the participation of council member Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki al-Subaie in the 57th Meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), which convened in Abu Dhabi in January. 

The 35th edition of the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) witnessed a large turnout Saturday, attracting a wide audience of readers, intellectuals, and young people who cling to books at the height of the acquisition of social media and digital technology.Books still can build bridges of dialogue and knowledge for the youth for whom reading is a passion, renewed by the fair in the face of the digital age. During the fair, there was a remarkable turnout of young people who filled the halls, showcasing diverse intellectual and cultural interests. This affirmed that books still hold their place in a world rapidly transformed by digital advancements.Their participation was not limited to browsing the pavilions and purchasing books, but extended to engaging in intellectual and cultural discussions about novels, Islamic thought, politics, psychology, and self-development. This scene reflected the fair's transformation into a space for dialogue, interaction, and the exchange of ideas, in addition to its role as a platform for displaying new publications.Several young people pointed out that reading has become an important means of coping with the pressures of daily life and escaping digital distractions. The remarkable youth presence at the DIBF confirms that reading retains its appeal for new generations, and that books remain capable of building bridges of dialogue and knowledge, and fostering awareness and intellectual openness in the face of the challenges of the digital age.Economic writer Ahmed Atef launched his book “Economics Made Simple”, telling the media that his participation in the fair was "a significant milestone." He noted that the fair is one of the most important, largest, and oldest book fairs in the Gulf region, attracting a wide audience of publishers and writers from around the world.**media[446570]**Atef stated that his book aims to simplify economic concepts in accessible language, explaining that economics "is not an elitist science, but an integral part of everyday life".He noted that the book explains fundamental concepts, such as inflation, recession, interest rates, financial markets, gold, and currency, aiming to make these terms clearer and more accessible to the non-specialist reader.He further explained that the motivation behind the book stemmed from the numerous questions people have daily about the economy, such as the direction of gold and dollar prices, and decisions regarding saving and investment.He said: "I wanted to provide the reader with a simple introduction to understanding what's happening around them, without unnecessary complexity."At the same time, visitors passionate about culture found the panel discussion titled 'The State Appreciation Award: Paths of Culture and Heritage' to be very enriching. Several recipients of the State Appreciation Award affirmed that preserving cultural and heritage identity is achieved by transforming heritage into living projects capable of addressing new generations in a contemporary language.Visual artist Yousef Ahmed spoke about his extensive experience working with Qatari palm fronds, considering them material that embodies “the essence and local spirit of Qatar,” in addition to being an environmentally-friendly endeavour. Engineer Ibrahim al-Jaidah stressed that the State Appreciation Award represents “a crowning achievement”, as it culminates a journey of hard work and dedication, noting that the recognition places a doubled responsibility on creators towards future generations.For his part, heritage researcher Ali bin Abdullah al-Fayyad addressed the importance of documenting heritage in both its tangible and intangible aspects, emphasising that oral traditions, folklore, poetry, and ancient tales constitute an integral part of the collective memory of Qatari society. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change announced the launch of a new digital service for the safe disposal of electronic waste through its official website. This comes as a part of the ministry's efforts to enhance the digital transformation of its environmental services provided to the public.In a statement released Thursday, the ministry explained that the service allows individuals to submit requests for the disposal of electronic waste through the ministry’s website, in cooperation with licensed national companies that receive, transport and handle the waste in accordance with approved environmental requirements. The service is accessed by submitting an electronic request and specifying the type of waste and its location, after which coordination will be made with the competent authority to collect and transport in a safe manner. This ensures that this type of waste is isolated from other wastes and treated in an effective and safe manner. Director of the Industrial Inspection and Pollution Control Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Mohammad Ayed Al Shammari confirmed that the digital service for the safe disposal of electronic waste through the ministry’s website represents a step within a broader national path to develop waste management, moving it from traditional methods to a more organized and efficient system based on employing digital solutions, increasing community participation, and strengthening partnership with the private sector.Dr. Al Shammari said that electronic waste has become an important environmental issue, in light of the expansion in the use of electrical and electronic devices and the accelerating pace of their replacement. This calls for the development of practical solutions that help in collecting, sorting and directing them to approved routes, instead of remaining in homes or being disposed of improperly.He added that this service reflects the ministry’s keenness to transform environmental awareness into an easy daily practice, through the contribution of community members to protecting the environment via the ministry’s website. He pointed out that the success of modern environmental initiatives does not depend on the efforts of the government sector alone, but on the integration of the roles of individuals and all parties.He explained that launching this service represents an important step towards regulating the handling of this type of waste, and facilitating access for members of society to a safe and approved mechanism for disposing of unused electrical and electronic devices. Dr. Al Shammari stressed that electronic waste requires special management, given that it may contain hazardous materials, such as heavy metals, batteries, and some components that may affect the environment and human health if disposed of improperly.He pointed out that the digital service allows users to submit a request for electronic waste collection by entering the required data and specifying the type of devices and their location on the ministry's website. Then coordination will be made with licensed national companies to receive, transport and handle them in accordance with approved environmental regulations.Dr. Al Shammari stated that the ministry is proceeding with the implementation of quality initiatives that contribute to establishing a culture of sustainability and reducing reliance on traditional waste disposal methods, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, and supporting the state’s efforts to protect the environment and preserve its resources for future generations.

His Excellency the Minister of Sports and Youth Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani inaugurated the official digital platform for the project documenting the history of Qatari football (1948-present), marking the launch of a landmark national initiative aimed at preserving the legacy of football in Qatar through a modern institutional framework that combines scientific methodology with digital innovation. The project reflects a firm belief that football in Qatar has long served as a social and cultural pillar that contributed to shaping public consciousness and mirrored the transformations of Qatari society across different historical periods. In this context, the initiative seeks to transform decades of sporting heritage, milestones, and iconic moments into a credible national archive that preserves the past while ensuring its continuity for future generations.**media[444261]**Speaking during the launch ceremony, the chairman of the Committee for the Documentation and Archiving of Qatari Football History, Ali Dawood, said that the achievement was the result of sustained institutional work that began in August 2020, driven by the conviction that documenting the history of Qatari football is a national responsibility equal in importance to the achievements themselves, as it preserves and sustains them. He said that the committee focused on collecting, verifying, and archiving a vast body of historical material, including documents, photographs, oral testimonies, and rare footage, all reviewed according to rigorous scientific standards.**media[444262]**Dawood added that documentation, research, and technical teams succeeded in building a comprehensive knowledge base that has been organised, indexed, and digitised to serve as a reliable national reference for researchers, media professionals, and future generations. He stressed that the accomplishment was the product of integrated teamwork carried out in accordance with the highest standards of quality and governance. He noted that the committee’s attainment of ISO 9001:2015 certification within a record period for a documentation project reflects its commitment to institutional excellence and sustainable professional practices. The committee adopted a comprehensive organisational structure comprising specialised teams in historical documentation, oral history, archiving, digitisation, verification, and review to ensure accuracy, governance, and quality outputs. Its work began with the collection of rare documents, photographs, and video materials, alongside recording testimonies of pioneers and key figures in Qatari football, followed by cross-referenced historical verification, digitisation of content, and the development of an interactive database based on the latest international standards. The committee stated that the project has reached an advanced stage, noting that the digital platform currently contains nearly 15 terabytes of historical data and content and continues to undergo expansion and updates. The volume of content is expected to nearly double during upcoming phases as part of a phased strategy designed to ensure the project’s comprehensiveness, sustainability, and status as a living national reference for the history of Qatari football. The committee also announced the publication of several specialised documentary books as part of the archiving project, covering pivotal milestones in Qatar’s football journey. These include publications on the early beginnings of football in Qatar, the national team’s participation in the Gulf Cup, and Qatar’s journey in FIFA World Cup tournaments, within a vision aimed at delivering verified knowledge content that combines historical narrative with scientific methodology. Among the publications is The Story of the Beginning, which documents the formative years of football in Qatar, tracing its emergence within early labour communities before spreading across Doha neighbourhoods and evolving into clubs, teams, and stadiums. Another publication, Qatar in the Gulf Cup: Legacy and Impact, chronicles Qatar’s participation in the Arabian Gulf Cup since the tournament’s inception, highlighting the technical, organisational, and fan-related transformations that accompanied its football journey within the broader Gulf sporting landscape. The book Qatar in the World Cup: Journey and Milestones documents the evolution of Qatari football from its early qualification attempts to the historic hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the national team’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The publication offers both historical and analytical perspectives on a long journey marked by ambition, challenges, and achievement.
